I'm currently trying to figure out a charging it's between my MyEnergi Zappi and my 2024 MG4 Extended Range

I previously had a Nissan leaf that had no issues. I've got Solar panels and a house battery fitted. The Zappi is running in Eco+ mode meaning that once the house battery is charged, if there's more than 1.3kW of Solar excess that the house doesn't otherwise need it should start charging the car. The car has no schedule set.

Outside of the Eco+ mode the Zappi is set to fast charge the car overnight using cheap rate electricity, and that's working fine.

Looking at my apps I'm currently producing just over 3kW of solar, and the house is using 0.3kW meaning that 2.7kW are being dumped to the grid because the Zappi shows "Charging Delayed". According to the MyEnergi website that's because the car isn't accepting the signal to start charging: https://support.myenergi.com/hc/en-gb/articles/360019305197-Charge-Delayed

I've tried unlocking and locking the car but nothing happened.

I then sat in the car and manually initiated charging and it started, but it started fast charging and pulling from the grid/battery until I manually turned down the charging speed on the car dash.

Have a missed a setting here somewhere or does the MG4 not play nice with the Zappi?

Anyone got this combination and have it working correctly?

What tariff are you on and have got a FIT?
Some MG'S don't like the start stop of solar charging. Try setting the slider to 70% on the zappi app.

I'm on an Octopus Go Tariff and on a FiT, but neither of those things should matter.

What do you mean by setting the slider to 70% on the Zappi? What slider? The Zappi is set in Eco+ mode meaning it should try and charge if there/s at least 1.3kW of surplus

Make sure you don’t have the minimum green level set to 100%

Edit - you can of course leave at 100%, but then it could cut out and in often (cloud cover etc) and the car won’t be happy with that at all.

This is mine:

Also, make sure you don’t have any schedules set in the car itself as that’ll confuse things. Set the schedule through the myenergi app only

Yeah, no schedules are set. I'll give that charge mode slider a try. Might have to wait for tomorrow now though #facepalm

I had it set to 100%, dropped it to 80% and it started charging. It's now on 100% again and is still charging. I'm confused, lol.

At all times there should have been enough Solar excess to charge the car. Interestingly it's showing a charge rate of 1.6kW. I popped back into the car and set the charge rate back to AC Power earlier so that it would charge at full speed overnight

I have the same setup MG4 Trophy and myenergi Zappi with solar panels but no house battery and it all works very well. Occasionally when charging from solar on Eco+ mine will also stop with same charging delayed message. I have found just switching back to stop mode and then back to Eco+ that it starts charging again. I have tried my slider in various positions from 0 to 100% but can’t see much difference in the way it operates. It seems to find its own setting and currently is at 90%.

FYI the principle of the slider is to change how much imported energy the charger is allowed to use in ECO+ mode. At 100% the charger will only charge when you have more than 1.4kW excess. At 50% it will charge if there’s more than 0.7kW excess, and so on. In practice, the higher you set the slider the more it will cut in and out.

Trouble is the car won't start to charge unless I give it some kind of nudge. I'm seeing the same today. There's 2kW excess and has been for half an hour. The Zappi is reporting "Charging Delayed".

If I use the app and manually start charging the car starts charging with whatever the Zappi has to spare, but it won't do it on its own.

I've only had the car for a couple of weeks. Is it possible that it needs a software update? I asked on another thread and was told that the software version I see on the dash is the Infotainment version, not the car version.

How do I find the software version of the car, and what should it be running?

Is your Zappi updated with the latest firmware?

Also, you said you’d adjusted the maximum current in the car. I have this simply set at ‘maximum current’. Check that to be sure it’s not causing an issue.

Failing that, give Myenergi a shout - their support is generally very good.

I had changed the max charge setting, but as with most things in the MG4 is seems to have gone back to default. When it charges it charges correctly...it just won't start when the Zappi tells it to.

Check the Zappi firmware, and maybe reboot it just in case there’s some configuration glitch at play. If that doesn’t resolve it, reach out to Myenergi

Which Octopus Go are you on; Intelligent Go, or just Go?, also is you EV charger on its own consumer unit or not (and if its seperate where is your CT clamp connected into the system?), and then its your zappi settings - to start with switch OFF any schedules on the car, so at least you eliminate one part of the mechanism (mine worked perfectly as I wanted for 30 months until recently, but found that my fat fingers had accidently switched on scheduled charging in the car, once removed it resolved my scheduled charging issue, with an ohme charger on IOG, with solar & home batteries)

Just another thought - when you plug into the car in the first instance, how do you do this? I usually lock my car, get the cable loosened off the Zappi, return to the car, unlock it, then insert the cable, and finally lock the car again. If you don’t insert the cable soon enough after unlocking, or lock the car soon enough after inserting it, the cable tends not to properly connect to the car. That may be the reason. Maybe not, but it’s worth considering.
