15th October. 12v battery dead, unable to access car. AA man knew the method, jump started the car and all seemed fine. Rang MG garage on AA advice for check on system drain.
18th December. Very Earliest book in date which showed no problem. Garage suspected BCM (?) problem but could not replace until another failure to confirm.
16th Jan. Radio stopped working, U Disc identity failure shown on screen. Rang MG garage as worried connected to previous problem.
1st April! Earliest date available to look at this fault.
21st Jan. Car battery flat again. AA again jump started car. Radio worked for one day after this restart.
24th Feb. The earliest date the garage could rush forward the 1st April booking to inspect the car.
23rd Jan. Got reasonable trade in value car sold.

Waiting 4 months to get a fault examined (not repaired) which could leave me stranded is unacceptable and using the AA as a supplementary repair service is not a situation I imagine the AA will allow to continue.

You never changed the 12V battery from the first time the car died and until you sold it ?

Pretty simple "lottery ticket" considering it might have been this and you would not have had to Pay them to diagnose the car at all ?

Especially with all of the reports that the original batteries in some zs evs from the same time as yours, were poor quality.

Radio Error sounds like the flash storage containing the radio software got damaged or corrupted...which could be due to the bad battery.

Hi hmadsen
There was nothing wrong with the battery according to the first AA breakdown man, something had drained it.
Also the Garage could find no definite fault 18th December.
It's the delay in addressing the issue which really annoyed.

So the obvious first things would be to test if the boot light turns off when the boot is closed, likewise glovebox light (If it has it, can't remember)

The 12V battery is only charged when the car is in ready mode (Fully on, ready to drive), so if the car spends time in the accessory mode (Start button pushed without brake pedal pressed, yellow light in start button) the battery will drain, supposedly also if you are in the car while DC charging.

If something is draining the battery, it seems odd it happening in October but then only did it again months later, if i read your timeline correct.

I would start looking into what you were doing when it happened, was the car rapid charged in accessory mode and then driven a short distance home and left for a few days in the off state (Or something similar).

Another thing that can drain the battery is, checking the state of the car via the app, it will wake up the car every time for example.

Not saying that nothing is wrong, but i suspect this might be more of a "Someone doing something that causes the battery to drain....Unknowingly" than a "Something is defective and needs replacing"

The part where the car has to be in ready mode to charge and if it sits for too long without being turned on the battery will just go flat, is one of those things that a lot of other brands will not do....I only have experience with my Tesla, apart from the MG, and the Tesla constantly monitors the LV battery and if it feels it is getting low, it will just close the contactors for the HV battery and charge the LV battery to keep it from being drained. Would have been better if MG also did it this way, but i suspect that at the pricepoint, corners had to be cut and features had to be omitted.
