Starting a thread which I'll keep up to date as things progress in case it helps anyone else.

Drove car on Saturday 17th for about 200 miles with no problems and put car on charge overnight to recharge from 30% to 100% - another long drive planned on the Sunday. Car started charging overnight for about 1 hour before cutting out and circuit breaker had gone on the mains supply to my home charger (Ohme). Resetting circuit breaker and retrying was no good. Car started 'handshake' but after about 2-3 mins stopped and car socket released. Same effect with granny charger.

First thing to say is an excellent response from MG Assistance; AA arrived to my home within an hour and after checking advised that car needed to go to dealer. As I had 30% available plan was to drive there with AA van following behind in case of problems. Got about 1 mile down the road; 12V battery had dropped to about 8V and all sorts of other problems started showing - brakes, drivetrain, etc. AA man got me onto the towing wheels (after a challenge due to parking brake not releasing and car not going into neutral). Jon the AA man was very efficient and careful and resolved problems and got me to MG Budgen at Shrewsbury.

About 3 screens full of error messages when they plugged in the OBD and the assumption is many/most of them were 'cascade ones' from whatever the main fault is.

MG Budgen at Shrewsbury have been excellent so far - they tried their charger with the same results as at home. Analysis and discussion with MG Warranty by the dealer has got the EVCC replaced and updated the software - did not resolve the problem. They are now investigating further and considering possibly replacing the ECU. As it is the bank holiday weekend, next updates will be Tuesday. They've given me a loan electric car (Citroen C4), to replace the 4-day car hire as part of the MG Assistance package, whilst they find out the problem and resolve.

I've had the car since May of last year with no problems apart from a 'dead car' in about August of last year which cleared with a lithium 12 V jump charger that I had anyway. I now carry it as a matter of course for safety.

Proberley a daft question but have they tried a new battery. You say only 8 volts. Faulty batterys are a common cause of problems of this kind.

No question is daft! They have checked the 12V battery and they are not sure if it is charging properly from the main drive battery, but have fully recharged it. Also Jon (AA man) put a battery pack on the car which should have resolved any issues - albeit temporarily - and it didn't.

At least with the new EVCC and latest software the technician has said I should be good for any high power chargers: Tesla, etc

I don't know, and I will not be asking until everything is done under warranty!;)

I'll try to ask then and put a figure here if I get it.

OK, so I hope I can close off this thread. I got my car back today (Sept 5th), and all seems well.

They have replaced the EVCC (part number 11505199) and the HV&LV CCU (part number 11473414) and then charged the car to 80% overnight and did a top-up in the day to 100% Not surprisingly the car has reset to standard setting so various changes to my preferred settings, and also no history of driving style so range defaults back to the original - I generally get a better than standard as I do not drive to the maximum speeds, etc very often - the advantage of being retired and time rich!

Googling the two part numbers brings up lots of articles related to V2L problems - which I do not use so I don't know if it ever worked, although it appears it would work now if I wanted to. My conversation with the technician was that any high-power charger should now work as I have the latest version of the EVCC and ECU and that would include Tesla chargers. There is no clear reason why the parts failed, but these things happen just like an ICE car has failures.

I will test high-power chargers at some point, but not for a month or two so I can make sure everything else is satisfactory.

I have been very pleased and satisfied with Budgens Shrewsbury in what they have done. There was no issue around the work being done on warranty. At times it felt slow regarding the issue being identified and then parts could not be ordered while they waited for warranty approval from MG - but this is MG manufacturer issue NOT the garage. I did overhear that MG will not accept part returns from a garage if they are not needed, presumably to avoid over-ordering and the associated costs. I understand this approach, but it does make the whole process slower than it might be.

If anyone is interested, the parts cost £165 and £1,255 respectively but as I said no issues over them being on warranty. Obviously, there would also be labour costs for investigation, replacement and testing which were all covered on warranty.

I will update this thread if anything changes or I notice something worth mentioning.
