OK so was talking to a tesla owner on map updates they said that maps will only update when car is connected to a WiFi network as is around 5gb file
So I was just wondering if this could be similar and car needs WiFi to update?
Before anyway has ago at me as says are cars are not Teslas I do know this just trying to look at it at all angles to get to the bottom of this?
There is an option in the navi, to update maps, and if you tell it to do so, it looks for files on a USB stick.
My best guess right now is that at some point there will be a website where the files can be downloaded onto a USB key and the maps can be updated this way.
The only unknown in that case is, if the files will be offered for free or for a price.
The seller told me that on the Mk1, you had 100 days from purchase to download the latest maps for free, and any subsequent update you would want, would be a paid upgrade.
As Here offers a free app for maps for your mobile phone, i would imagine their maps being priced reasonably, and for MG to have struck a deal, where they pay X amount of money, and they you get the first X years map updates for free.
To be honest, if they make it paid updates, i will not buy a single one of them, the navi is nowhere near as good as google maps via AA. As long as updates are for free i will get them, as i want to be able to use the onboard navi, as a backup, but especially with the very poor pronunciation of Danish street names, i dont want to use it as my main navigation anyway.
