Here’s a run on the weekend, 147.9 miles and I had 19% battery left when I plugged in (screenshot is from the morning after so it got 5 hours at 8.5p/kWh). Temp was 0C on the run north and 7C on the run home.
The trouble is we've only seen the cold weather figures so far. What will it be like in the summer, doing 70mph on a motorway? If it doesn't get to 250 miles even in that use case, that's when I'll be on to Trading Standards! So has anyone had a chat with Trading Standards regarding MG's claim of "up to 250 miles range". My dealer is still advertising to people that the facelift MG5 can do up to 250 miles on a single charge when all the figures are showing that they struggle to do even 200 miles?
Hmm?LMAO you guys crack me up sometimes![]()
WLTP range isn't calculated by doing 70mph from 100% down to 0%The trouble is we've only seen the cold weather figures so far. What will it be like in the summer, doing 70mph on a motorway? If it doesn't get to 250 miles even in that use case, that's when I'll be on to Trading Standards!
It seems to be all about trading standards or litigation these days.Hmm?
The five-door hatchback comes with an impressive 281 miles of electric range in the standard model or 360 miles (579km) with the Long Range MG4
I meant to type 60mph not 70 but that neither here nor there, the point being that if it can’t reach it’s states number even in the absolute best case condition then there’s actually a reason to complain — right now based on cold weather numbers there’s no way anyone can know what the best case numbers could be…It seems to be all about trading standards or litigation these days.
Whatever, this article does some explaining about why even the supposedly-more-accurate WLTP figures are unlikely to be achieved in the real world.

The whole thing is worth a read but this bit is relevant here
This means that PHEVs and EVs are subject to the same caveats as petrol and diesel cars, in terms of their real-world performance, with buyers needing to be aware that the same efficient driving strategies will be required to return figures that are in any way close to the official figures.
I'm not sure trading standards will be that interested.
City - Cold Weather * | 205 mi |
Highway - Cold Weather * | 145 mi |
Combined - Cold Weather * | 175 mi |
City - Mild Weather * | 310 mi |
Highway - Mild Weather * | 185 mi |
Combined - Mild Weather * | 235 mi |
These numbers for cold weather are weird. My own experience is that city driving in cold weather is much less than 205 miles — more like 140 miles. I think this is because it’s split up into 15-20 miles a day (and that in two trips) so the car has to warm up every time. Perhaps if I were to actually drive in a city non stop for 205 miles it may achieve that, but cities aren’t that high, in mega city one I’d be using a flying carIt is best to refer to EV database and all EV marketing should be mandated to use them when selling.
Real Range Estimation between 145 - 310 mi
City - Cold Weather * 205 mi Highway - Cold Weather * 145 mi Combined - Cold Weather * 175 mi
City - Mild Weather * 310 mi Highway - Mild Weather * 185 mi Combined - Mild Weather * 235 mi
If I get the chance I will send you a photo of my dealers MG5 Trophy facelift demo vehicle which has "up to 250 miles" plastered all over it in big letters. Either they are telling porkies or they mean it! I am sure that we would never get anywhere talking to trading standards but it would give me great satisfaction to see it say "up to 200 miles!" instead. Something near the truth. This thread is entitled MG5 Trophy range etc. well MG as far as I know have never said the Trophy model will do 250 miles it was said to be Able to do up to 230/235 miles, and it was the MG5 SE that is said will do up to 250miles it has the smaller wheels so not the Trophy model I’m sorry to say.
Does not surprise me at all you see with regard to trading standards the get out is ( Up To ) the SE model will do more than the trophy but as Smokie has said above someone somewhere might even get that or more I remember on have about 2years back the early 50kw mg 5 where said to do 214 miles but this chap was well over that in his car turns out he was in a hilly area and was freewheeling a lot of the time downhill crazy thing to do.If I get the chance I will send you a photo of my dealers MG5 Trophy facelift demo vehicle which has "up to 250 miles" plastered all over it in big letters. Could this be the offending vehicle by any chanceSo has anyone had a chat with Trading Standards regarding MG's claim of "up to 250 miles range".
