The timing of your comment clearly implied the fact I still have ‘driving:MG4’ contributed to someone getting confused enough to reply to a comment from November, somehow not noticing that it had already been dismissed as a possibility in the ensuing 6 months and 40 pages.

If I’m wrong with the above, what did your comment mean?
What other confusion have you noted that my lack of status update could be referring to?

It was a general comment. It was some time before I realised that you were not, in fact, driving an MG4 and that your troubles in relation to that car were a thing of the past.

Hi, been in bed all weekend with the dreaded C19, so was ignoring my phone. Just checked and not a single email or missed call, so the DVSA are being informed tomorrow for sure. As far as Gillanders in Aberdeen are concerned I do believe they have invested in their own diagnostic equipment ,if they have someone who can work it ?‍

Not at the moment. I've been in touch with MG Beaconsfield, they've booked it back in for the start of June and requested to keep it for a week, also asked if I can try to get video footage of the symptoms.

Footage is crucial for those ‘couldn’t replicate the issue’ eventualities ?
FWIW try and film you having your foot to the floor at the same time too, to avoid any doubt.
In my videos even if you couldn’t see into the footwell you could hear me stamping on the throttle to illustrate it was hard down.
Again, avoidance of doubt that I was somehow faking the issue.

Just a minor update on this thread..

I dropped my car off at MG Beaconsfield (2nd time) this morning for further investigation after the previous battery management update didn't solve the issue. The guy on the service desk said that this is now a recognised problem after many customer complaints and there's an official recall in place. The dealers received this news on 2nd June.

The downside, however, is that the recall work is the same update I've had that didn't resolve it ???‍

OK, new update... literally just had a call from MG Beaconsfield. Turns out the new recall update DOESN'T include the BMS update they applied a few weeks ago. It includes an EVCC (Electric Vehicle Communication Controller?) and BCM (Body Control Module?) update.

The technician was able to reproduce the speed restriction issue, has applied this update and now can't reproduce it.

Going to collect in the morning ??

The guy said that there aren't details of which issues the recall addresses (it's not specifically for this speed issue), only what the recall entails

As one who uses Linux on their PC, the lack of detailed patch notes is a pet hate of mine.

Mine performed like it had never performed before when I got it back with the new drive motor fitted, seriously felt like it had gained 40bhp.
Only took a couple of days for the speed restriction to come back.

Is this an official ‘recall’ where all affected cars get recall notices, or is it just a ‘fix’ for the issue that will be applied ad-hoc? This has been an issue with past ‘solutions’. Recalls should be official registered and letters sent out (like the locking in problem for example).

In a way you want it to happen ASAP.
If it does, there’s no avenue left for them.
You’ve given them an opportunity to repair it, they’ve failed, you can reject clear as day.
What you don’t want is it happening again X months down the line.

I'll be at the dealer tomorrow, I'll ask for more information.

Just a quick update to this. I've been waiting for the SOC to get lower to give it a proper test. Unfortunately, the issue is still there. Not really sure where to go from here.

Am I the only person with this issue on here now? Guessing this doesn't apply to all SRs, which makes me wonder if it's a hardware issue, not software.

It's certainly not happening to my SR. It is seriously bat out of hell territory. I don't usually let it get low on charge, but the day I arrived back from Yorkshire on 19% I remember seeing 92 mph on the M74 on the way. (I did drop back guiltily when I saw that, but the fact that I got there without even realising I was going that fast says something.) I don't know what the SoC was at that point, but I think it would have been under 30%.

I'm not 100% convinced that it's not software-related though. Bowfer's description of the problem (and I have read the entire thread) always made me feel that it was the software cutting in as if he had a speed or power restriction set, although he didn't actually have one set.

There are all sorts of software combinations on these cars, and I have a suspicion that you may have a gremlin lurking in there that the rest of us have been spared.
