I just saw the picture of the 7-month-old Trophy with the seat beginning to disintegrate. I am literally shocked to my socks. I heard people talking about the Trophy having leather seats and thought, that's nice. I now find they are crappy vinyl, and my jaw is still on the floor.
I looked at the apparent quality of the cloth seats on my SE and thought, looks pretty hard-wearing to me, can't see why they would only put a year's warranty on these. But I bought the seat covers anyway, for that reason, and to lighten up the interior, and to guard against incontinent pets.
£160, and I reckon my seat covers are more durable than the Trophy's seats as supplied. Now I reckon that short warranty period is because they know the Trophy seats are going to fall apart. Probably nothing to do with the SE seats.
And as for the auto-lock, let's not confuse the fact that the SE and the Trophy have different software bugs, with actual differences in spec.
Yeah, I can just see the developers sitting around and saying, well, the Trophy has the sexy spoiler, and the "leather" heated seats, and the folding wing mirrors, and the auto-anti-dazzle mirror, and the rear speakers, and the phone charging pad, and the inbuilt satnav (and probably more I've forgotten about), and we'll market it on these features.
But then we'll sneakily remove the disabling of the auto-lock and the ability of the music player to read folders from the SE software, oh and let's also jemmy it so the radio always comes on when they sit down, and it won't save us a brown ha'penny, but that'll really stick it to these skinflints who decided on the SE, won't it. They won't know about any of this, but they'll find out after they've bought the car, bwahahahaha!
Enjoy your vanishing HVAC screen and the way your phone keeps unpairing and the LKA that comes on every time your infotainment screen switches between light and dark modes....
I mean, if Trophy spec is your thing it's not the end of the world that the seats are crap material. Just buy the Aliexpress covers in your choice of finish. But do it when you get the car. Not after you've been getting out and in the car for seven months.
