The flip side of that is, why after a year isn't it perfect?

It took VW 2 years to sort their software out.

Yes it did, but they didn't release a new version every month or so that some people seem to want, surely like VW MG can get it as reasonably stable as they can and then spend a bit of time developing a bug free system and then release that.
Would require patience from owners but be worth it in the long run

I'm looking forward to our local MG garage's second attempt to update the software on our March '23 SE LR in a couple of weeks time. In the meantime, I've had a few 'ambient temperature is low, turn on battery heating?' messages come up on some of the hottest days of the year. I'm still on R24 but as I don't use AA, Bluetooth or make phone calls when I'm driving it doesn't bother me so I'm being patient and I'm letting all the beta testers iron out the problems first.

As much as I moan and dislike the car it’s not software related and as much as I’d like the updates due to the geek in me, I don’t want to shake the hornets nest

Could it be possible for this thread to be sticky and on the first post listed the newest SW versions for each model / MY combination?

Bough mine a week ago (demonstrator) and getting it in November. Luxury model (Europe Trophy).
Car is MY22 model with black roof etc, software on it was R24 but didn't notice much problems. What's the newest one for those as I discussed with representative that I want it to be updated before handover.

My June '22 Trophy is still experiencing glitches (radio stops working, phone drops out, screen goes blank, random behaviour, etc.), so it went in for an update yesterday. However, the dealership said that they couldn't do anything because when they plugged it in, the system states that all updates are complete and there have been no recalls issued. I'd already explained that I wanted it updated to the latest version, i.e. R46, but they haven't been issued with it.

Anybody else having this problem? How do the dealerships get hold of R46?

Your dealer may be referring to module updates. The infotainment system is a simple download for a central server, likely in China. However fits on a USB stick so not large in size. Your dealer just needs to get up to speed and download it, then plug the USB stick into your car and update it.

Ask your dealership why, others seem to be able to obtain it without issue. If your dealer is proving useless, you may have to try another franchise.

There is probably a reason stopping this but it's known to MG and they aren't sharing.

It works well on so many other cars and not just infotainment updates, it's a pity.

Communication is not their strong point if they gave a reason people might accept it.

Indeed....other manufacturers do, but as MG is owned by SAIC who are Chinese state owned, and at the moment we are playing Spy v Spy... who knows !

This seems surprising, can understand there are good and bad dealers out there (always has, always will be) but sounds like MG are picking and choosing who they offer more support to, very strange, by any chance is yours one of the fairly new MG dealers? - who may not have learned all the ropes, and made the right contacts yet

Well after giving the R46 a few weeks of use we can certainly say it's far from fixed, multiple instance of CarPlay just hanging and then the unit locking up. Bluetooth still often just doesn't connect and then another journey randomly will connect. Very disappointing

It's mind boggling how it can be this bad. I had more reliably bluetooth systems 15 years ago and a dodgy aliexpress aftermarket CarPlay system that is more reliable than the CarPlay in this car
