BYD Dolphin: reports of battery fires in China

Anyway as long as all BYD vehicles come standard with an electrical fire extinguisher should be right! ? ?

What’s FUD
Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt. Often used by Big Oil and friends to discredit EVs, making people doubt their safety, usability, etc. There is sadly a lot of it about.

With change: First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident. I think we're moving to stage two.

And given BYD assemble half of all Apple's iPads and also assemble Tesla batteries... I do find random YouTube channels as sources of information... iffy at the least.

Forgive me, but who is Roger Dee? I have my doubts that you can get an LFP battery to do that on purpose, let alone it happening by accident.
Roger Dee is a term used to say received and understood.
The batteries BYD use are blade.
I don’t think MG4 use Blade unless Blade and LFP are one and the same.
Each to their own- if you want a BYD buy one
If you want a Funky Cat - Buy one
If you don’t - don’t
Rocket science it ain’t.
I had a choice of all three inc Mg4.
Did my research and picked the MG4. I’ve watched too many videos of customers being absolutely angry and heartbroken about their BYDs and Cats.
Scaremongering perhaps but who knows.

Blade refers to the design of the cells - eg Cylindrical, like Tesla, or Blade or Pouch etc...

LFP/NMC refers to the chemistry in the cells.

OK, I understand. The Blade battery is a type of LFP, although not all LFP batteries are Blade. The MG4 SE SR battery is an LFP which is not a Blade. But I would have thought the Blade batteries would have had the usual LFP safety profile.

I guess some context would be handy and comparisons with other vehicles fires

Some links that have more information:

Without knowing the individual circumstances for each event there are still more ICE car fires than EV car fires (but this could just be down to the numbers of vehicles on the roads and the fact there are more older ICE vehicles around).

Who remembers this news story from a few years ago:

Also remember that EV fires includes e bikes and e scooters., there is no electric car only data.

BYD made 2.6 million EVs this year, how many had issues? your man in the video says "so many" but doesn't give any actual data.

Air bags not deploying is such a common problem that google pulls up 1.2 million results and ambulance chaser lawyers have a special claims spiel about it.

It is worth saying that recalls due to design faults are potential fire risks, not actual - usually there's a tiny number of actual fires before the recall (sometimes zero as manufacturers really don't want a reputation for fires).

Also, data doesn't typically separate out PHEVs from BEVs so it is hard to be clear about what the data is telling us.

Anyway I may have been posting pre tonsillitis mood which hit me Fri night so I’m sick as a dog but Ohme are coming three days after I get my car to install the home charger so am happy with that and it’s 1 week today ?
I’m hoping I’ll be fit and we’ll to properly join you all then and be part of this great gang ❤️
