MG4 Software Update Thread

Can't see the module updates ever being made available OTA though for this or pretty much any manufacturer's car. Way too dangerous if something goes wrong and it's a module linked to a safety feature.
Tesla has been doing it for years, and they have millions of EVs and the details of each car can vary one day to the next. It must be a very complex process keeping all that sorted, but I've never heard a complaint about an OTA update causing a problem, other than when some feature got removed or limited.

Though as I type this, maybe that's mostly the infotainment system that gets OTA updated. But I know that some presumably safety related "recalls" have been fixes entirely as OTA updates (on Teslas). Regardless, that's a very impressive system, at least to my eyes.

And of course, their badly-named "full self driving" and autopilot software gets updated routinely. Those definitely have safety implications.

I recall Dave Takes It On (YouTube) saying that his 7 year old Model S has had OTA updates over the years, and these have been more than just Infotainment updates. e.g. some updates have improved the overall efficiency of the car and so extended the range - that'll be part of the BMS/motor control system and nothing to do with the Infotainment.

I can confirm on my behalf, me and my dad have same MYP Berlin built and upon recieving the FSD was a bit too cautious, phantom brakes quite frequently but after we recieved an OTA update couple months ago the FSD system hugely improved, both cars lack ultrasonic sensors and parking sensors, the "eyes" of the FSD are the video cameras at windscreen and B pillar. SO its for sure not just a infotainment update that we recieved.

However we didn't notice any changes for charging times or range or power wise for our cars, which are fine the way they are.

Tesla are in an unique position: rather than buy-in a bunch of 3rd party hardware modules each with their own vendor's software and then try to integrate them (which most oems do), they decided to buy in (or build) the dumb electronics and write their own software to manage and integrate them.

So Tesla can update anything on the car that it is possible to software update via OTA.

It is a great system, but it relies on having a great software team. There is no other OEM in that position, although various ones are trying to catch up and/or approximate this by relying on Google platforms or similar.

It is an utter nightmare trying to integrate and update hundreds of modules from hundreds of vendors each using their own tech and tools.

However, this is a nightmare that MG are struggling with more than most.

I did notice however that the auto lights seemed better and didn't come on when going under trees etc like before so perhaps they've tweaked them as part of the update as well....
I've noticed that too since my car had its first service. We've had a couple of bright sunny days and the lights stayed off despite gong in and out of shade from trees. This was on a road that used to turn my lights on in similar conditions. I haven't yet driven through the transition from daylight to dark since the service so don't know at what point they will turn on.

I’m booked in for several updates at my local dealer on the 30th Jan.
car is behaving well in the meanwhile don’t want to rock the boat during Christmas.
Meanwhile I’ll look for a new IR Light sensor cover from a scrappy

Went in for updates on phase 1 Exclusive/Trophy due to a list of complaints.
Now on R46, with the refreshed air con screen etc.
There was a list of 6/7 ECUs with updates carried out.

Since getting it the day/night switching has much improved.
Screen still defaults to day mode when starting at night though, still have to flick headlights to fix.
Tyre pressure is now not giving an alert when slightly below pressure in cold weather.
Previously the rear would go at 2.4 BAR and even though the pressure would return to 2.6 after a short drive the error would remain. Now there is no warning at 2.4. I don't know if they lowered the threshold or it now accounts for the temperature.
Apparently there was a fix for the auto headlights too.
AC is still about 4 degrees off.
Rear collision assist (three quick flashes of indicators) still occurs occasionally when cars go past in an adjacent lane.
It'll take week or two to know how Bluetooth is.
No one-pedal driving sadly.

If the Bluetooth remains connected I'll be happy.

Wifey's 51kWh MG4 is still running R21 (and, of course, lacks ext. temperature display). We purchased the car two weeks ago, so I believe the dealer forgot to update the firmware during the car's preparation.

Before we send an email to request an update, does anybody know if R46 or R29 is compatible with our vehicle? We have a LHD Euro specs 'Standard' model (same trim level as SE, without satnav or rear camera).
Mate I’m still running R16!

Pfft. I'm still on R13. ;)
Are you Mr Guru? And yours is ok isn’t it? We’ve both got an SE SR iirc.
Such a shame this car is a lovely smooth as silk drive it’s just the little inconsistencies that bug me.
My cars outside my house and MGPilot says it’s in Bruges some days or another town over ?‍♂️ .
Had left rear tire pumped up within a week and now warning for the rhs rear tyre needs attention.
I’ve skidded or fishtailed a few times in the wet crossing over cats eyes and the like.
I’m a bit scared tbh after this morning about going up the M6 in her. In case someone comes too close and she decides to slam on again like the Tesla in the tunnel ?

Default GPS position for the system when it can't get a lock is Belgium. Not sure why - is there anything around your car that would make it hard to get a GPS lock? High walls? Overhanging trees? Garage roof?

I suspect that's where the MG server is located that deals with mobile interfaces/GPS?

I've just checked and mine is showing in the correct place. (Well it's the house across the road, but ....... close enough :))

Mine sometimes shows the house next door, but the car is parked only a metre or two from the boundary.

If you set all the tyres to 2.5 cold, the warnings stop. I did fishtail once, but nothing terrible happened - the car just straightened up and went on. Note to self. Don't gun it while exiting a roundabout and overtaking a white van all at the same time.

The only time I had the emergency braking apply, someone was indeed about to walk out into the road. Caliban has driven the length of the M6 several times and no untoward happenings at all. Other than me looking down and seeing the numerals 93, and realising I ought to set the cruise control.

Caliban is still on R13 as well, and will stay there till I'm 100% sure that any upgrade will not lose the external temperature display.

I think you will find SE models and Trophy models have different software my brand new MG4 SE Standard Range is running R20 software and it the latest version for the SE apparently. So I can then assume the latest Trophy software is R46. Only thing ive noticed with my SR is the intermittent operation of the one pedal driving even when the battery is at 50% hopefully this can be sorted with the next version of the SE software. Not overly bothered with it at the moment as I assume that will be the official answer if I was to contact MG.

P.s currently doing well after a week of ownership current Miles per KW Hour 4.4 (11 degrees C)

Latest SE version is 1100R33
Your dealer might not have been allowed to install it because there might be some requirements such as other firmware updates to be installed before upgrading the infotainment unit.
