AGL have a plan for EV vehicles for night time charging, I am in NSW, as for me I just use my home charger during the day as my solar system pumps out 30-45 kWh nearly every day I haven’t paid a power bill in years.

My local shop has 4 Tesla outlets at no cost I have used that public station with the bonus car park spot.

I think Tesla chargers are free to Tesla owners but are very expensive in Australia too but they always seem to be at least 4 double outlet chargers installed. Cost seems generally related to charging speed so 350kW chargers are always the most expensive so the fuel cost is not that much less than petrol.
Tesla charger in Shellharbour square shopping centre is absolutely free Shellharbour is near Wollongong nsw south coast.

Why is it that only Tesla can install multiple chargers?
Because Tesla chargers are not a standalone profit centre, unlike for most other charger networks.

I found that by tweaking with the equaliser, sound balancing, virtual subwoofer and other sound settings the sound is quite acceptable
We had playlists going for our trip to and from Sydney. Sound was mostly OK enough to enjoy singing along but some tracks did sound pretty crummy/tinny. I've not done much tweaking of sound settings, not really sure what I would do with it. Seems to vary a lot depending on what is playing. Guess it's one of those try a few things and see.

I do like the ChargeHQ automation looking after our MG4 charging at home. I don't need to think, just plug in and it looks after it all. I may one day set up my own automation control but for now this works well.

The MG4 + the EVSE makes a great controllable load which, like our water heater, automatically varies power demand to ensure consumption is covered by the solar PV and minimises importing energy from the grid. This was the other day, shows how our household load ramps up and down to stay within the available solar PV supply:

I can't do much about the ducted AC unfortunately but maybe one day I'll be able to power that via the off-grid system like I do for most of the rest of the property.

Even just the new tweeters in the dash made an astounding difference. The stock ones are just awful.

I'm still to put speakers in the rear doors.
I don't believe there is any wiring in the 51 to support rear speakers.
Are you planning to just wire into the front speakers? (curious as I have a 51 as well and whilst the EQ change made it acceptable it's still quiet in the back)

I'm actually not sure yet.
It is possible to wire the rears into the correct pins on the headunit (others have done it) but I might end up putting in a proper amplifier and driving all the speakers from that instead.

I finally took delivery of my MG4 excite this week and have a few questions.

  1. The centre display keeps going back to full brightness after every time i unlock and start car, any way to make it remember?
  2. Driver display is too bright even at lowest setting and is blinding on country roads at night, any way to solve this? Thinking of getting a screen protector or something
  3. The plastic bit on top of the tailgate flexes when holding it to lift the tailgate, is that normal or is mine not secured properly. I'm afraid it might break, doesn't instil confidence that it will last
  4. When i test drove, cruise control was short press for 5km adjustment and long press for 1km, but my car has this reversed, any ideas if this is configuration or am i on an old software version.
  5. Where do you keep your keys when driving? This is my first car that has no ignition and putting it in the console rattles as it moves when driving ?

1. Permanently set Dark theme to alleviate the issue
2. Probably the only option - personally I find it OK if not great
3. Not really noticed this with mine. It moves slightly but nothing of concern
4. The latest updates have changed this - and this is more logical. The long hold for 5 mph (or kph in your case) increments works well. (I was driving mine for a year with the old scheme, but I quickly adapted)
5. I keep mine in my pocket (whether coat or jeans)

One of the updates recently applied to my car ... see my thread The MG4 SE 1100R33 Infotainment Thread.

I didn't mind the 5 increments (since speed limits are generally in 10 increments, and the MG4 speedo is surprisingly accurate), but the reversed scheme makes more sense as it is more aligned with other marques.

@coff33 is in Australia according to their profile, and they have the "new" scheme, so you'd be better off taking it up with them. :)

I agree 1km/h makes more sense it was more of a pleasant surprise on receiving the car.

I'm more concerned about the tailgate issue but maybe it's not that bad as i initially thought, will see how it goes but my dealer does do a 1000km check up I'll ask then and check out one of the dealership cars if it's the same.

We don't have such updates available here.

We have (some of) the updates, otherwise coff33 car wouldn't be behaving as described.

Our main problem is the smaller number of deliveries so far meaning we haven't really got any notes on potential changes that have been made or issues able to be fixed.

Because it seems like a global phenomenon that MG won't tell you what updates are actually available or can be installed until you complain about a problem.

I got a CarPlay fix for example by asking, but I rarely use cruise control, I should check if that update changed my 5/1 km/h increment setting.

As for flexing tailgate, definitely nothing of concern on mine - but that depends what kind of car you've come from. A solid 20 year old tank? Or a more recent plastic contraption which generally all have varying levels of flex and wonkiness (or at least all mine have for the past few years) so maybe I'm used to it?

Yeah, but this is the "In Australia" thread. We don't have such updates available here.
Yes we do. My car went in for fault with rear window not operating last week and was kept overnight to do a heap of recent software updates including battery management. I immediately noticed the acc 5km/h and 1km/h switching reversed. Also less sensitive on slowing in bends when acc engaged.

Hi Coff I just had my 1k service and the dealer tried to install the update but after two attempts they said we will call you back when we get it sorted from MG my dealer is southern classic cars in Wollongong . So update failed on a positive note my car appears to do everything right.

Hope everything else is going well with your car so far. How's your tail gate? My old car was 10+ yr old and didn't have a plastic boot trim so i am wondering if i am overreacting when i feel it flex and move if i pull it up when its locked.

My tail gate is fine no looseness at all , I traded a 4 year old Skoda wagon she was as solid as a rock. Yes this car does have a lot of plastic bits but I believe all cars will be like this soon plus my main reason to go electric is green , I think every little bit helps (2nd car is a 1972 VW Kombi) so this tries to even things up.

I have an MG4 77kWh Essence, and I have an issue with using my mobile phone which is an S22 Samsung.
The problem occurs when I issue the voice command "CALL 'Joe Bloggs' "
The MG4 responds with, and attempts to call somebody entirely different, but never 'Joe Bloggs'????
I am completely at a loss as to what is going on...
If I ask it to CALL somebody else, it finds an alternative person to call, but I have to say it is very consistant and will always want to call that person.
I have been right through the contacts list on my phone and downloaded it to a spreadsheet to see if I can locate any problems in the database but it all checks out fine.
I have disconnected then reconnected the Bluetooth and reloaded the contact list, all to no avail.
If I use Android Auto to call somebody, it works perfectly, but not the built in carphone adaptor.

What could possibly be wrong ???
