Hello Everyone,

I hope that you're all well. I'm a new MG4 owner. I've got a second hand MG4 Trophy, with an 'Evmore' brand type 2 charging cable from Amazon.

I don't know if I'm just being weapons grade thick, but I cannot get Source chargers to charge me at all. I plug the type 2 cable into the car, go on the source app, activate charging (the green light starts blinking), plug in the other end of the cable to the charger and ... nothing.

I've tried it with the car locked (and then tried starting charging on the app), with the car unlocked, popping in via the passenger door to click start charging (which doesn't work) - nothing seems to make the car begin to charge.

Have I just bought a duff type 2 cable or is there some basic step I'm missing? I've now tried two different source chargers in quite different parts of London.

The granny charger that came with the car seems to work fine ... (and I've checked that I'm in full 'long range' mode and able to charge to 100 %).

Thanks very much for any thoughts!

Try another charger from another provider. If that works, check with your MG dealer if the car got all updates. There is an update that fixes compatibility issues with some chargers.

Reassuring that granny charger works at least.

No ideas from me I'm afraid except try to troubleshoot with other brands of charger and maybe try to borrow a different cable from a friend. (Would be hard for us as don't know many EV owners locally).

They claimed to do all of the updates when they did a service two weeks ago before sale but who knows - is there an easy way of checking?

Unfortunately there isn't anyone I can borrow a cable from which is a bit annoying but I'll see if there's another charger type nearby I can test.

As a general rule, once you're plugged in, do you need to lock the car or otherwise click start charging whilst sitting in it?

Can you please be specific about the green light blinking because the car's charging lights will flash green when charging.

Have you tried plugging the cable into the charger first before going to the app to start charging? That's the way I do it with Podpoint chargers although my local one gives free charging for a few minutes before requiring interaction via the app.

The green light is on the source charger itself. The light on the MG charge port remains blue.

I've also tried charging whilst the cable is in, no dice.

Just seen that Source really does exist!

Had an email from Octopus Electroverse:

There's an extra 10% off Source London until 21/06! ️

Until, 21st June (23:59), the Electroverse community can save 10% extra on charging with Source London. Psst - we’re already 3p per kWh cheaper than the standard rate!

The cable has to be plugged in at both ends before attempting to start charging. Your description makes me wonder if you are doing that? The charger has to "negotiate" with the car first before supplying power.

So the source app says not to plug the cable in until it starts flashing green but perhaps that's where I've been going wrong?

For what it's worth, BP pulse works fine so it's definitely not the cable ...
