The great big insurance rip off

£384 last year (Aviva Zero), renewal was £560 so it's been binned. This year I've gone with The AA's Gold policy for £412. (Could have got the Silver policy for £385 - so the same as last year effectively - but decided the small extra was worth the £50 reduction in excess and addition of Motor Legal).

Got my renewal quote this morning. Nothing has changed, apart from getting another year older. The premium is exactly the same as last years. How? We signed up to Saga premium quote last year. Will keep the premium the same for 3 years as long as the only thing that changes is your age. Happy days (as long as nothing changes before renewal day!)

some years ago I suddenly realised I was over 50 and could get quote from Saga, they quoted me £800+for my MX5, whereas I was getting quotes from reputable companies in the £2-300 range, I never bothered with them after that.

I think this just shows that it pays to shop around each year and not assume anyone in particular is a good deal for your circumstances.
My cynical side thinks that the business model for insurance and many other time limited services is based upon the need for churn, without a constant supply of 'new' customers the boards bonuses are not forthcoming.

When I got to that age (sadly a while ago now) I got quotes from Saga for a few years. Sometimes they were stupidly expensive compared with the competition, a couple of times they were the cheapest, so I went with them. Now I just use one of the comparison sites and go with whichever of the cheapest couple of quotes looks best - Saga haven't featured in the cheaper quotes for a long, long time.

I used to go through a few comparison sites, but lately I use Go Compare (despite the annoying man in the advert). Their £250 excess bonus I feel is really worth having. I've claimed it back once, it takes a while, but £250 in the bank is better than £250 in the insurer's pocket. :)

~£700 for the renewal on my pre facelift mg 5 and worryingly that quote seems to be competitive that's with over a decade of no claims bonus and a clean licence.

I suspect that's also the price with a discount for having my home insurance with the same insurer.

Why, oh why, do we constantly get comparisons Teslas with MG?

Tesla , world’s most popular car brand
MG , an also ran from China.

You can not compare the two, it’s like saying products from Aldi are not as good Waitrose, we all know that, chalk and cheese!!
Rant over.
Except that in many ways MG is better made..... and it is good value for money where as Tesla is (like Iphone) overpriced and subject to a complete lack of consideration for customers. Yes, I have an MG - in fact 2 and I have had zero issues in over 50k of driving. I have a policy of not buying from rip off companies like Tesla and Apple.

Just got off the phone from RACQ (Aussie version of RAC) with fully comp insurance + windscreen replacement for A$900 roughly 450 uk pounds. There are two ways to set the level of cover in Aus (not including extras). 'Market Value' and 'Agreed value'. After reading the 'Shock Loss' thread about the falling value of 2nd hand MG's (i'm sure it's not just MG). I plumbed for 'Agreed Value'. For and extra A$25 bucks. I managed to set the replacement value (for an event that wasn't my fault) at just over the purchase price we paid for the car. Hoping to do the same thing in year two and three. After that, it probably won't matter. Although, they wouldn't give me a discount for having a factory fitted immobiliser. 'You only get that discount, for an 'aftermarket immobiliser'. came the reply from the chat box.

Which reminds me. Has anyone fitted a GPS tracker, incase of theft?

I cant wait to hear how you substantiate such a claim, how on earth is an MG better made?

If youve ever tried to make repairs to other phones (broken screens / backs / cameras) etc, you would appreciate the far superior engineering in the iPhone. Its in a different league entirely.

Well thats good, it is by no means a comparison against Tesla though, I have a 6 month old MG5 and a BMWi3, 7 years old and 95,000 on the clock. I do think the BMW is a better designed and manufactured car than the MG (I've not any trouble with either of them) but I do think the MG5 is a bloody good car.
