MG ZS Mk II Tesla Charging Software update

On your last service this calendar year did you get the Tesla Charging Software update free

Out of curiosity, anyone that had Tesla chargers work on their car and then stopped after any software updates or service? Or anything else that was messed up, for that matter?
 
Just had the update done at Eden MG Swindon included in second service, now I need to test it.

Anyone know the closest open chargers to Oxford please. ;) I might have to open the tesla app otherwise.

Right, so I called Tesla support on 01628450660 and was told Tesla have blocked all MGs, with the exception of the MG4, from charging at their superchargers. No idea if the support person was misinformed or if there is actually a block, but from this it would seem it was a complete waste of time getting the update.
Used that same charger yesterday for my 2022 SR zs trophy and no problems at all. If I had any update it would be during its 1st or second service which the car has had both
 
Our ZS was serviced on Tuesday, how would we tell if it has had the update?
Plug it into a Tesla open charger. It's the only way to tell.
I'll be plugging mine in at Merryhill, Dudley on Friday.
 
So it won't break anything if the update hasn't been done then?
i think if you look back through the thread, you get a message in the Tesla app telling you the car isn't recognised, or something like that.
 
Got back to the dealership after my “updated” ZS failed to charge at the open to all super charger (unauthorised vehicle). I’ve been told they will have to take it up with MG as they applied the EVCC update and weren’t aware of any others. I’ve sent them a screenshot of the Tesla app rejecting me and now I’m just waiting to hear back

What really annoys me here is the lack of process and testing.

Charging an EV is fundamental to it's operation.

You shouldn't have been handed the car back like this.

Dealers need the right processes and equipment. Our dealer had no way to test the rapid charge capability without driving to the nearest charger a mile away.

The CCS protocol is known. This bug in their implementation is known, so they know what to test for. Why aren't they providing dealers with a test harness to check the charging system for compliance?

A september 2022 car could even be needing the "Random complete bricking of the car at some superchargers" so i would imagine it would need it.

But don't they apply these software updates when you take it in for a service, i would imagine this being a part of the service, them sticking it onto the computer to update everything to the latest versions.

No way of knowing for sure, until you try it. My car is December 22. It did need an update for Tesla compatibility. MG dealers are likely to charge you for this. I had quotes up to £150 if done at the same time as the annual service. In the end I complained to the Motor Ombudsman. Best part of 2 years later and it was done free as a 'goodwill gesture'. Put me right off buying another MG.
 
It would appear that no, they don't do the updates unless you complain. And even then they don't always do them

Would be really nice if there was a list of "latest firmare" revisions so one knew if there was even something new.

I bet the reason they dont do it automatically is, it's fiddly, unreliable and a chore to do it.

When i took delivery just under a month ago, i did in advance ask the salesman at the dealer if the car would be fully updated and he said it would be as part of what they did, when they got the car.

Said that they had essentially had the car hooked up to the computer all day to do all of the updates so the car would have the latest version so maybe i wont have any worried, but i would still really like to know if there were any updates, i would certainly push for them to plug it in, while doing the yearly service.

I have the eZS readout from my car so if it WAS updated as he said, i should have a list of the latest software....Atleast what is put into a car, sold in Denmark.

This is one area where MG really need to improve, most other car manufacturers (Tesla, VW and Xiaopeng for example) can do updates over the air.

I think my Tesla has had 2 or 3 "recalls" but all of them were just a software update, if the ZS EV has a software recall, even if it is done free of charge, i will have to go to their repair shop, which until recently was 100 miles away (New one opened "just" 50 miles away now). This is just sooo 2010 :)
