i can see that Tesla is making its chargers accessible, & i can get their App & register my payment card, but how do i find out when planning my route if a particular Tesla charger will let my MG5 use that charger? & without setting up a monthly account which i do not need?

See also the several threads on the compatibility or otherwise of various MG5 models with Tesla superchargers, and whether it might cost you a lot to get it fixed if necessary.

Hi, what MG5 do you have!
My 2021 PFL neeks a new part to work on a Tesla rapid charger some just need an update and some work fine.

I can confirm my MG5 EV 2023 doesn't work with Tesla chargers. Signed up to app and did all the necessaries but after several attempts at different charging stations and ports, no luck.

I have had my 2022 PFL updated at the dealership. It allows me to use ‘open 2 all’ Tesla chargers. Site numbers are going up. I am finding that not all chargers at open 2 all sites are open.

How do you mean ?
A site with 13 chargers may only have 8 open to all. Reason I say that is twice now been to sites and app has shown some out of order. First time inadvertently used one and it didn’t work. Moved to another and it was fine. Then a Tesla came to the first one and charged with no issues. Leads to to believe that where it says ‘out of service’ on the open to all, it just means those ones aren’t open to all.

Is it only sites with 13 chargers? Very spooky if it is.... It may also be the type of supercharger. All work with a Tesla but type 2s are not open, type 3 are open with hardware and software upgrades and type 4 should be open to all. Haven't seen any sites with mixed charger types though.

You also need an update to address this. Time to talk to your dealer as it appears slot availability at most dealers is several weeks now and that should give some time for the latest can it/will it discussions to be resolved. Your car is late enough to just need an upgrade.

If you go on ZapMap and it says contactless, then it should be open to all makes of car. I stopped at Uttoxeter services on the A50 and the only cars charging were MGs! I just used a debit card at the station.

Yes some are allowing non Tesla use, we recently travelled to Cornwall and topped up using Tesla at Darts Farm near Exeter, excellent and cheaper than the other big players,
There is plenty of info available, just needs a little input to find it.

I think thats one of the best reasons to use a Tesla charger. They change the rate based on demand and of course they are super fast chargers.

Heathrow T5 is mixed V2 and V3 open to all

Not been to Heathrow in a long time.... Maybe I need to make a visit. The V2 comment which appears to be wrong, was based on what was happening when the open trial started where there was a lot of confusion over which supercharger version would support it.

This thing about some units declared out of service is weird though. Still wondering if it is a random V2 issue.

I recently spoke with my local dealer about an update for this , they said they didn't know anything about it. They said they would contact MG UK and ask the question and then get back to me, I won't hold my breath. I have a 2022 MG5 FL; has anyone with the same model as me used a Tesla charger without having to do a software update?
