MG4 Lane keep assist

Mine is an SE SR and lane assist stayed off. :)
Until the latest update…
So if you want to keep lane assist off, you’ll have to beg your dealer not to update the software.
Which they’ll say they can’t do as it will invalidate the warranty etc
Catch 22.
I’ve already got used to the two button press to switch it off.
I’d rather NOT, but there you go.

BTW the new MG5 I had on loan for 7 weeks remembered your preferences.
So there’s inconsistency within MG for sure.

Same here - foot on brake for READY, press the Car icon (Info screen defaults to MG Pilot), press LKA slider to turn off, press Confirm. (So actually 3 clicks for me).

I also then usually select the Drive tab and then select Adaptive regen and Custom drive mode. :)

FWIW I tweeted MG last night asking why two cars in their own range can have polar opposite functionality.
Why does the 5 remember settings, why is the 4 different.
No reply yet.

BTW I gave LA a trial last night and it’s abysmal.
Approaching a particular set of lights the wheel went mental and the accident warning assist went off too.

I’m absolutely dreading my wife taking the car now, whereas I like to encourage her using the EV instead of her Evoque.
Dreading it….

Lane Keep Assist, in my opinion, on the MG4, is dangerous and overactive. It yanks at the wheel especially going around corners heading to the right. Irritated to have to turn it off EVERY TIME I get into the car. Should be a possibility of turning it off and keeping it off - maybe with a warning about NCAP score being invalidated. OR MG could make it better behaved. It is like travelling with a naughty child, occasionally trying to wrench the wheel out of your fingers.

Ideally they'd fix it, short of that defaulting to LKA off always.

BTW….where did lane keep assist come from (LKA)??
If I didn’t have to go into the settings every journey it wouldn’t have struck me, but it’s just ‘lane assist’…?

Hard to believe they still haven't got this sorted to a level that isn't dangerous and more user friendly.
Nearly 6 months and still not working the same way on all cars

Hi, go to vehicle settings and turn on mg pilot. Now set the Lane change to anything but not emergency. Come out of the settings - go back to MG pilot and turn it off.
At the minute you are telling the car you don't want assistance except in an emergency - well crossing the line is classed as hazardous.
You can check if this is the issue, indicate.and change lanes will be fine but with no indicator it will try to assist.
I hope this has helped.
Tom
Great Tom, Will Def-0 try this in the morning, cheers.

Howdy folks, signed up on the forum today to share in the frustration.

Car just got back from a service, and they noticed there were a number of updates missing from the car. They implemented these, and now I have the dreaded 'lane keeping assist is always on' issue.

I've spoken with the garage who implemented the updates, and they will be getting back to me with more information in coming days. I expect, like others here have found, it'll turn into a game of telephone tennis between the garage, myself, and MG customer care, but I'm going to keep pushing whilst I've got the energy to do so.

Popped my findings so far below:

Previously, lane keeping assist could be disabled when the car was on and not moving, and disabling this setting was stored in the vehicles memory. If you disabled this feature, then turned off the car, the next time you got in the car the setting would still be disabled.

Following the update, the setting is now only accessible when the car is moving. The setting is not visible when the car is stationary and in park. If you wish to disable this feature, you must start the car, begin driving, and then navigate through the menus to find the setting.

The lane keeping assist feature, when enabled, appears to affect cruise control too. When cruise control is enabled and lane keeping assist is enabled, the wheel locks up and attempts to keep the vehicle in the lane.

Lane keeping assist doesn't function well on country roads, and tends to pull the vehicle left into passing places, and into potholes / ditches.

But LKA should not have been able to be turned off permanently; the fact that your car allowed this was a software bug/foible and applying updates has reverted your car to the as-designed state.

This isn't a battle you're going to win.

Aye, I'll not win - but will be interesting to hear from the garage to see if other folks have brought this up, and whether they can inform MG that they've seen some push back from folks.

Hello - new to the forum but a long-time lurker..
I can't find this posted anywhere else here, but Which? have noticed the LKA problem in their current MG4 testing. MG's response to them is that no customers have raised this as a safety concern! The view of Which? is that the MG4 LKA is noticeably worse than other manufacturers. MG says that there should be an update soon.
Which? want feedback if you have had similar problems to them. This isn't one of their paywall articles.

Dude, yessss, thanks so much for posting.

The garage sent me a list of all the bits and bobs they changed in the car last week after I mentioned the issues with LKA. They want me to bring the car back in so they can take another look. I've forwarded this article on to them too.

I've also reached out to Which? with my experience, and would encourage others to do the same.

I won't be writing to Which. The reason ? I don't believe the LKA on the MG4 to be any different to any other car with this awful invention. 3rd car with it , and I've driven others to name but a few BMW , Toyota , Hyundai, I have always ended up turning it off as it's invasive and doesn't work very well. So unless you're going to complain about LKA on all vehicles then I don't think it's fair to single out the MG4.
