350 miles a week mainly motorway. Is EV a good idea?

So “reopening” this thread… looks like I have been sold a standard range rather than a long range.

Do people still think that for the kind of weekly mileage I’m doing (about 300 - 250/270 is motorway) that this car is still a good idea?

I’m getting between 160-190/200(at a real push with less motorway), I don’t mind plugging in, usually twice a week or so, I’m more worried about winter to be honest! Is it going to cost me a fortune?

Trying to decide if I keep the car, or hand it back. If I keep obviously want money back from the dealer. I like the car to drive, I like the spec etc, it’s just the battery issue that’s putting doubt in my mind.

LR or SR will cost you the same - it's the mileage you are paying for. 5 hours of a 3-pin slow charge at 2.3kW overnight gives you about 30% range so you would charge about 3-4 nights a week and with BG that's £1.30 per night/5 hours charging

If they sold it to you as LR and you can prove it - they should give you a good discount - I would think about £1,000 depending on car model, age and mileage. Compare prices on the internet for SR and LR of as many equivalent cars as possible.

I would like to avoid handing back and would rather have money back, as this would be the second car I have had to hand back in a month. I had previously purchased a Kia Sportage, which in the first 48 hours had a broken Clutch Master Cylinder, which was fixed under warranty, then it developed 2 fuel injector failures, so it was handed back. I feel as if I am cursed with cars

I work in purchasing for a living, so not worried about my negotiating skills, more the practicalities of the EV for my personal journey.

sorry, I keep saying 300 miles... - 350 miles per week is absolutely fine for SR. No worries. get some money back and enjoy the drive - lovely car for the money ...

I do 70 miles a day and add 30-40% each night just incase I get a failed charge

Consider yourself extremely lucky that KIA failed - that got you into EV and cheap and enjoyable ride!

Note: whatever you read on this forum, remember it's mostly us complaining about things that are usually down to us and not teh car - not reading the instruction manual or things that are "missing" whilst forgetting to take into account budget price we all paid ...

well, they are not the only ones selling ZS in Australia or wherever you are ... first check the prices of standard range ZS equivalent and if they cost about the same, think whether you want to keep that one or not ... if you want LR or better priced SR, tell them you'll bring it back next week due to prior commitments and in the meantime look for another ZS/car ... just don't stress about it too much ...

Are they MG authorised dealers? Those are either dodgy or have no idea what they are doing so either way ...

I'm in the UK Fred. The dealer is in Preston.
I've told them my best and final or they can have it back and I will look again. I won't be held to ransom over a mistake they made.

I think the price difference between second hand SR and LR should be about £500- £1,000 max. New ones are about £2,000 more for LR ... consider whether they priced it as SR and sold as LR ...

See how happy you are about that particular car and how much all the hassle is worth to you

Have a look here (they seem slightly overpriced..) and on AutoTrader for prices. I was happy to travel to get my mine as long as it was a good deal ..

It will be fine.

Charging from home on a 8.5p kWh deal means you save arm fulls of cash every year on fuel costs.

I've driven my SR all kinds of distances without drama.
