Cyberster - what we know so far

My dealer is still quoting Aug 5-9 :( and is not very forth coming with any real accuracy. When did you place your order? Is it possible the deliveries are somehow scheduled by oldest orders first? My order dates back to Dec 2023.

At least you’re getting some idea of dates - here in the UK no one seems to know anything about any cars (showroom, demo or customers). Someone on Facebook has been given a date by their dealer but mine (and 2 others I’ve rung this morning) reckon that they can’t see anything on the MGUK system yet.

I'm curious of the logistics of the Cyberster shipments. Could it be that a ship containing the Cybersters docked first in Thailand to drop off 250 Cybersters and then proceed to the UK? While its been frustrating getting updates from MG, to be fair the original delivery estimate upon placing my order was "mid-summer" which ostensibly is July. Around end May the advise was still July. I was fortunate to have 2 test drives. One in connection to a recent Motorshow (March) and another when the demo cars arrived around mid-May. And now it appears some customers will take delivery of their cars by this Friday which is July 26. So while I would have appreciated more transparency the timelines are fairly on target. Rumor was UK would see deliveries in August. That could still be the case. ?

I believe the UK Cyberster's are coming by train..

Suspension complaints again. hmm Im sure coilovers can fix all that not ideal for a new car. I wonder how easy it is to order a yoke from China. Non of these complaints from China. They obviously have better roads than us

Or better cars, and we get the dregs.
Sorry that's far too Cynical. ?

Tbh they said the same thing about the 370Z being harsh, unsettled and bumpy on British roads. I ignored all the reviews and tried it myself. Owned 4 of them over 8 years. Then found out its not much in it with the Cayman S 981 despite the 160kg weight difference. The Cayman was seen as a sports car and the Nissan a GT.

Yes, it is kind of annoying to have people criticise the car for not being what it isn't trying to be.

It is a big GT convertible, that's pretty obvious so complaining the driving experience isn't as involving as a Boxster is a bit silly. It isn't trying to do that.

I also found the boot size comparison with a Tesla silly, that's a completely different kind of car.

Totally agree you have to drive the car yourself to find out whether you like the drive or not, never rely on reviewers.

My main concerns about the car are:
  • Wheel obscuring screens: hoping a yoke becomes an option.
  • Passenger experience: looks like they have no infotainment at all they can easily look at or interact with, which is disappointing.
  • Doors: bit slow, could get annoying.
  • Software: does it support a new generation of OTA updates? Hoping it is not the same as the MG4 experience

I really like it and no car is perfect but there is enough here to potentially put me off. When spending this kind of money there are certain expectations.

Passengers will get an "Oh sh*t!" handle and like it!

What's a passenger? This car is for me. If they want info then they can look at their phone, talk to the driver or we're riding in the family SUV.

You can buy a 10 inch Ipad and attach to the Dash with a holder lol. Passenger screen option in the Taycan is expensive. My brother didnt bother. I never carry passengers anyway. Most people probably said dont buy the car ?.

Maybe if i go to China next year ill ship back some Yoke steering wheels hehe. Red/Grey.

That driver focused thing with a bar across the center console can be found in the LC500, F Type Jaguar and even Toyota Supra Mark 4. Some might see it as a flaw though. The controls in the center console of Cyberster are not to be messed with. They have car controls in there such as driving modes and 1 pedal driving. I wouldn't want a passenger tampering with that.

Its easy to go into a different menu that not the climate control...explains the handle across the passenger side.

Whereas in the 370Z there are duplicate controls on the nav unit so passenger can operate it as well as zonal on some models. Not much tech in there to affect driving.

Yep, this car is very much an indulgence for the owner/driver. No one cares about passengers or shopping, the other car(s) is/are for that!

Don't actually anyone do that though, in a crash the airbag's interaction with it will ensure death or no more face!

Rainy, dry season. My bad.

I saw a comment on Car Wow stating that youre sitting on plastic in the Cyberster as the leathers vegan. If it was real leather theyd now have another thing to moan about it not being green or eco.

Alternative materials are not cheap. Its easier to order real leather directly from Morocco. Youd probably save money but it goes against being green and eco friendly.
