I just spoke to Caffyns MG in Ashford Kent, to ask if there was a more up to date software release than R33 on my 23 reg Trophy. Amazingly they asked if there was a fault on the system and I said no, I just want the latest software. The answer was that if there wasn't a fault, they couldn't do an update! Is this normal folks, it seems daft to me!

What do you hope to gain from a later software release if your car is fault free?
Improved LKA, screen response, LKA off in one selection etc.
Mine is currently in dealers getting updated, I told them LKA was pulling and de-selection was dangerous when driving, they are now updating (as I type), picking up later this afternoon.

Update, they said the car has a recall (it is the updated model) that will improve LKA, but are having problems with internet speed of R59 update, they are doing this evening for pick up tomorrow... I have a loan car so no issues.

You gave the wrong answer if you want action taken.
If you are truly happy with the car as it is then my advice would be to not fix something that isn't broken.

This is bizarre to me.

I also run R33, and I sent an email to my local MG dealer enquiring about a potential software update as I know later versions are available. Within a couple of hours my car had been booked in for an update within 2 weeks, and they told me it was classed as a recall so is FOC! (Car is going in this Friday).

Might be worth asking them about this? Seems odd to me if MG branches are not told the same information..

I have a MG Trophy Long range two years old. The MG service department in Guilford are saying the Nextbase dashcam is corrupting the software? Therefore the is the reason why the radio is cutting out! I ask my self why put a dashcam socket there in the first place?

What "dashcam socket"? The MG4 doesn't have any socket (I'm assuming you mean a USB socket up near the rear view mirror?) other than below the "floating" shelf housing the gear selector.

Note: this is the MG4 board remember.

Sorry I didn't realise this was just the MG4 board member section.

You would of thought they would have copies of the various software updates on their own servers and not replying on some crappy internet download each time they need to do an update..

well the new versions could be tied to the VIN of the car? no idea if this is the case though

Not for Infotainment (I believe) - but you're right, they may have changed the process. However R59 may be reliant on other software modules being updated, and they will require connection to MG's servers.

surely a later version either has additional functionality or bug fixes - quite why they wouldn't want everybody on the same latest version (once its been rolled out to a few and shown to be safe - not looking at anyone Crowdstrike) I don't know.

You might want to start a new thread if you want this problem discussed. I had my dealer fit a front and rear dashcam with an internal battery. The power cable to the front and that to the back from the front are wrapped together with an RF choke to limit interference before the cables disappear into the roof.

If the dashcam is corrupting the software why wasn't spotted after the first service a year ago now?
Or is it that MG have their own dashcam?

If there's a fault MG will pay for the update. If there isn't either the dealer or the customer will have to pay for the technicians time.

My Trophy has a Nextbase dashcam with no problems with the radio. Are you assuming it is the software rather than EM interference? Does the problem exist with DAB, FM or both? Note that with DAB interference corrupts the digital stream and thus you could end up with silence - equivalent to freezing with digital TV. With FM you can also get a 'fuzzy' sound.

I have just visited a local Halfords whom installed hundreds of dashcams. The problem is the EM interferences is coming from radio stations which are not pre-set via the red heart.

I've missed a new menu option on the R46 version right... there's a way to get rid of the useless bar across the top in Android Auto yeah?

No there's not ... having that bar there means you get access to the pull-down menu without having to exit Android Auto. :)

(1100R33 for the SE is the same - and it means quicker access to turn off LKA).
