MG4 Xpower times vs battery

Gosh, listening to you guys makes me realise never to buy a used XPower; the battery will be so depleted/damaged from all the stress of frequently using all that power. So, we now have another category of 'thrashed' used performance car. Nice when it's new, but not nice for the unsuspecting second or third owner. I guess that's life.
Same could be said about any performance ICE car I guess as well.

Also, the last Tesla Model 3 Performance is the same as the X-Power in that it offers the complete power available from the battery at any given time (unlike the non-performance models which are software limited), so this car also has variable performance based on SoC etc.
This has been in production since 2019 and there is no significant evidence of major battery issues on this model and many, many of these will have been 'thrashed' over the past 5 years.

Yes, that is exactly my point. Now we can have thrashed performance EV's as well as ICE's.
So thrashed EVs with no obvious battery degradation?
Think I may have missed your point as this would mean subsequent owners don't have anything to worry about so I don't get the comment about it being 'not nice' for subsequent owners?

You are assuming that all the battery degradation would be obvious. Some of the damage might be latent.
This could indeed be the case but with 100,000s of M3Ps (which is the best comparison currently for a car that puts a similar stress on it's battery) sold over the past 5 years, if there was an inherent serious degradation problem, we'd certainly all be aware of it IMHO

Maybe so, but it also depends on what corners SAIC may have cut in their regulation of the power extraction from the battery pack, battery chemistry, battery construction, cooling, battery management etc that varies between MG and Tesla. Like you indicate, time will tell.

Lots if supposition with no evidence. That's exactly how internet 'rumours' start and are encouraged.

With MG providing a 7 year warranty on the battery, I think I'll place my money with MG rather than internet 'gossip'.

I was looking at the dragy unit and was seeing how they compared. I didn't end up getting one, as the phone apps seem to compare reasonably well and close enough for what I need.

I downloaded a couple of apps but they needed me to press 'go' at the exact moment I set off.
Open to error me thinks.

At least the Dragy claims to be extremely accurate and when I've had my fun I can sell it on ebay and get most of my cash back.
(Probably?)

I'm going out early on Sunday to try and better that time and use the built in video facility.......

I have no evidence to support this, but thrashed performance EVs would probably be in better overall condition than thrashed performance ICE cars. Drawing high current from an EV battery for 5 seconds at a time isn't going to be a problem for it.

Combustion engines lose power over time, even with regular maintenance. Plus, there are so many things to go wrong with an ICE that you could be up for repair bills ranging from small to large shortly after buying. It's early days, but batteries appear to be lasting better than people are expecting.

There's a lot of negative press around EVs, much of which is undeserved. For example, people have this belief that EVs very susceptible to fires. However, you are significantly more likely to have an ICE car catch fire than an EV.

In case you haven't seen it, I did a 3.64
0 to 60mph yesterday with an 80% battery...

Post in thread 'Launch Control' Launch Control

I will be doing more runs as the battery discharges this week.
With pilot sport 5s I’m not surprised your doing under claimed 0-60mph times ..

Stocky tyres are meh at best

Sadly EVs have a ALOT of negatives that scare consumers..

The 2 biggest is price vs savings and infrastructure..

How long before I really start seeing savings in my investment of 52k for my EV over an ice car if it’s 20 k plus cheaper ??!

Range is another granted the X power isn’t a range monster and rightly so with the smaller battery and 320kW but at full charge I could only manage 250km round trip in normal and the car was at 10% ( where I went there was NO charge stations so there and back 250km for the day ).

Mind you for my 250km trip it cost me $26 aud to charge from 10% to 97% so that’s a huge win.

That covers infrastructure which in AUS is dismal at best!!
But rightly so where is the incentive for companies to offer more EV infrastructure without the sales of EVs being sufficient.

Sadly also the cheaper Chinese EVs have some problems ranging from annoying to catastrophic..

Better built EVs like Tesla, Kia and Hyundai are still hitting the 70 to over 100k for them with makes for even less value to customers..

Now if a company like Kia or Hyundai even Tesla could build a 30k AUD quality mid sized EV with decent range then RIP ice cars in Australia.

Something tells me that if anyone will, it will be the Chinese manufacturers that will be the first to bring out a $30K mid-sized EV. Hyundai and Kia are more expensive than Tesla. To be honest, a decent quality mid-sized ICE car is a struggle to find these days.

Right now in Australia, if you can get an EV that is not subject to luxury car tax through a novated lease, there is zero FBT. This basically means any EV under approximately $90K is GST and income tax free. An MG4 Xpower for example could cost as little as $850 a month which is less than what some people pay for petrol each month. If you can charge at home and have a salary that can get you decent tax savings then an EV is actually the cheapest option.

Any recommendations for an iPhone app that would record acceleration times? Not interested in getting anything fancy that requires extra kit but just a simple app to use as a guide. My car subjectively feels slower than I think it should picking up from around 40 or 50 mph to overtake even in sport mode and at higher charge percentages. I’m expecting to easily pass vehicles travelling at these speeds but seems to take the same time as previous turbo-diesels! Of course, some naughty drivers maybe flooring it as I pull out…..or my expectations are too high.
Anyway, app recommendation, please. Thanks.

Nothing that doesn't require you to set it going.
It will be near enough but is near enough good enough?

(70% Battery)

I shall be going out early on Sunday with a fully charged battery and hopefully get some quicker times.

I tried an Android app (may also be available on iPhone) called Car Acceleration Meter. Looked promising to start with, autostart based on movement I think. I only had one attempt before losing confidence with a 0-60mph of 2.81s! It could have just been a glitch so I may persevere.

I would be happy with that ?

Went out for some runs with the Dragy in the A.M. and achieved a best of 3.51 to 60mph and under 12secs for the 1/4 mile.
100% SOC

Too bloody early really as I needed to charge and required a quiet road.

Before I charged her up I achieved a 3.76 to 60 mph with a 60% SOC.

If you want a video link "Thumbs Up" and I will PM it to you.
