As my period of taking the full glory of owning a new '24 reg car ( my first ownership from new) comes to an end on Sunday I've invested in a private reg to swap in when '74 becomes 'the thing' , Sunday....or mebbes Monday, depending on admin availability. A couple of queries if I may ?

1. Can you do it on a Sunday ? ( Swap plates!!)
2. Am I right in thinking the green EV stripe on the plates is optional ?
3. Should the screw covers match the background black / yellow / white ? .

I've done a quick dry run ( had the plates for 6 months) and am raring to go. The dry run was useful in as much as it revealed the above queries and ensures they are drilled and aligned correctly.

You don't need the green stripes.

People usually choose the screw colour to match the background so the screws are unobtrusive. Some smart alecks have got into trouble by using a black screw on a white or yellow area so as to make the number plate read something it doesn't. For example, a black screw between 1 and 1 could look like an H. Frowned upon.

So I'd probably get away with those on the front then, I mean it's obvious what it is.... but will probably swap them to keep it cleaner looking ?

I prefer the ones on the back - stainless dome, reflects what's surrounding them.

You can use the plates now if you want.#

You would only have to wait if it was a 74 plate.

And the front plate looks awful, use black screws or silver screws with the Black plastic caps.?

Oh and your front plate is on the wonk.
@salty will confirm.?

#(As long as you have told your insurers and finance company if applicable)

I'm taking the '24 to the limit - might go and park on the local Waitrose carpark until midnight Sat eve ?.

Note to self - must tell dvla, insurers AND dealer and AA ??. ( Hence the can it be done on a Sunday question. Think yhe important stuff dvla & insurance is automated so should be fine )

I know it looks like it's on the wonk but honestly, it's not. Think it might be everything else ( planet down) .

The screws - OCD anyone ? ?
shall I? shan't I?

You don't need to tell your dealer m8

That wonky plate with the white caps would keep me up at night! ???

You do the change online 24 hours a day and it is immediate. Did my insurance online, free and no admin charges. Ignore the dealers just remember the original reg for when you contact them or the AA. Keep the old plates for putting back on when you change cars.

Awesome, thanks.
Sunday it is then ?

That's it - I'm official ?? ( you can tell it's all official and legal 'cos it's on the road! ).
Thanks for help and advice and yup, still on the wonk ??

p.s. Lots of teeny tiny flying ants descended while I was doing it, rather taking the edge of it.
p.p.s - rear of car gorgeously intact , pheeeeew!! ?

That is one seriously nice-looking car. Almost wishing I'd gone for the red after all. Almost.
Why thank you both.
I am loving it but have to say the fangs and black badges ( cheap chinese crap anyone ? ) kind of take it to the next level ?

....and obviously the wonky reg plate adds a certain 'je ne sais quoi'.
It's my favourite colour of the Teslas too.

O, OK.

If I hadn't taken the demonstrator I would have ordered the Red.

My Tesla would have also been Red instead of black, but I couldn't wait.

Can you see a pattern emerging here?

I have the patience of a G-Nats Chuff.

I.E. Limited, Small, Tiny, Weeny, Non Existent.

Yeah, me too to be honest. "Do you want the red one - you can have that on March 1st ?" Read " we need to get rid of this one asap. It's been sitting around for 10 months"
Me" hell yeah!!"

When I changed my plates to something MG related, I used the special double sided tape - a lot more strips than recommended, to be on the safe side, and thicker tape on each end of the rear plate where the car curves. I didn’t want to chance drilling the plates, and I think they look neater stuck on.

I declined to have green stripes on the new plates too, especially as that would have cost an extra £5.

The original metal plates were fixed with plain silver screws - no coloured covers - and three of them were not fully on the same colour on the plate anyway. It always irritated me.

Agreed, 2 simple, cheap mods.
(Not, Rolfe and Alb ?)
Really make the front of the car. ??
But for God's sake fix that bloody number plate. ???
