Cyberster - what we know so far

Unfortunately this is a lie, Working for an MG Dealer myself, I can confirm that the updates we have had from MG is the following:
Why would you accuse me of lying? An MG dealer accusing one of MG's customers of lying. I didn't realise that's how MG operate as a brand, which is very disappointing :(

What you've quoted looks like the Internal Dealer Communication from Guy Pigounkis 11 days ago.

What I'm quoting about two software updates came from my dealer on Saturday, but presumably you're saying that he's lying as well :(

Quote:
"I spoke with MG yesterday to get a better idea of arrivals, I was told that the delay was due to EU Type approval not yet being officially confirmed. Also every Cyberster is still waiting on two separate software updates. I'm unsure when these will be completed and until we have word confirming things I'll not be giving any false hope!"

This is because they are pre-production vehicles so are technically allowed on the road under different circumstances
One of the test plates i used to search for insurance came up as another model from years past. So obviously belongs to MG for testing purposes. I suppose the same plate can be used on a kit/concept car or test car in future.

MG?
Communicate with the public?
That's unpossible!
I'm beginning to wonder about buying from MG. At least with Renault when there were delays in getting pre-ordered EVs to customers we were kept informed by Renault UK via Whatsapp and received a couple of nice hampers as an apology.

I never once said that you are lying, I am telling you that the dealer is bending the truth with false excuses,

There is nothing from MG regarding any software updates as if there were any that needed to be done then this would be completed by us dealers and the updates would already show on the updating software, which they dont,

The pure reason for the delays is the EU type certification and that is all.

Please don't say I'm accusing you of lying, I am merely saying that what you've been told isn't the truth.

yeh, alot of brands do this, most likely its easier when testing new vehicles

Your exact words were "unfortunately this is a lie".
Anyway, I'm really getting disenchanted with the MG brand if we now have one dealer accusing another of lying.
Yes they were, as in what youve been told is a lie, if your not happy then feel free to DM me

and the reason for saying it is that the dealer is bending the truth to you to justify that the cars are delayed for more than what is actually the case

As another impatient deposit payer. I also am always looking for news and keep in contact with my dealer. This is frustrating but it is not the fault of the dealers.

I think two statements can both be true. The paperwork and 9th September have been widely reported.

On the software side as we know ATM there are no over the air updates from MG so I am not surprised if they want to do some updates before shipping or they end up with a load of cars sitting in the forecourts.

All - deep breath we are all wanting the cars ASAP.

Yes, I read it that MG4Driver was saying that you had been lied to, not that you were lying yourself.

Anyway, it is normal for there to be PDI updates for dealers to apply to the cars before they are given to customers - this has been true with other MG EVs before.

all along ive been trying to tell people the software updates will happen at the dealers, not at the port,

Yes. Often though, people get told distortions by some sales people (like it happens at the port) or they simply misunderstand what was meant when it was explained.

I remember when the MG4 launched we were told all sorts of things were being done at the port, when it was actually part of PDI.

So are software updates delaying the allocation of cars to orders or not?

All I want to know, and what my dealer can't tell me, is will my order be fulfilled from this first batch of Cybersters now waiting at the docks, or will I have to wait for the next shipment in a few months time. I know MG UK have said that "the vast majority" will be fulfilled from this first batch, but how do I know if my order will be?

At what point do cars get allocated to dealer orders?

So frustrated that I can't even get to see a Cyberster after my dealer cancelled their showroom tour because MG increased the cost of hosting the car for 1 day. We're expected to order blind.

It sounds like there are none pending in the queue, but they could still be released before the cars get to dealers for them to apply - anyway, applying software updates doesn't usually hold anything up. They are not currently holding it up because the cars are not with dealers.

My understanding is the cars are delayed because the paperwork for their legal conformity in the UK is not complete - which is down to the government department / group that does this being very small (rumours that it is 1 person that does this for all new vehicle launches). MG might have been late submitting paperwork or there might simply be a long queue (or both).

The dealer won't know this until the cars have been allocated to them from the batch. I don't know if that has happened yet for all dealers, it may be that it hasn't.

This is up to MG UK. I don't know exactly - others might know.

I get your frustration, but this is not that uncommon when launching a brand new vehicle, delays are common across manufacturers, it is part of the experience of going first.

We have very few dealers who are willing to come onto these forums and share any information at all. I am very grateful to those that do, even if the answers are sometimes frustrating.

I just had a quick search on AutoTrader and at least 6 dealers have adverts on there for new cars ‘in stock’ ‘immediate delivery’. Is this just bait to get phone calls or are new cars really available in stock?

I know all about buying launch edition EVs. This is my third, after a Fiat 500e La Prima and a Renault Megane eTech Launch Edition. With both of those the UK importer kept us fully informed, and with Renault I was even kept updated with the date it left the factory, etc. In both cases we had invites to see a showroom tour car, updated brochure material, etc. and hamper gifts when things were delayed.

MG UK seem to be severely lacking in any customer communication for customers ordering their launch edition cars blind.

just looked myself, these are all order now adverts, so just clickbait to get phone calls in, no cars have been dispatched to us dealers yet

no cars have been dispatched to us dealers yet
Can you clarify whether dealers have been told what cars (quantity, colour, etc) they're receiving from this first batch, and have individual customer orders been allocated yet?

All I've seen is that ROMs were going to be contacting dealers shortly about allocations - has that now happened?
