MG ZS EV standard range

Hi there,

My apologies if this has been asked a thousand times but I can’t seem to find “up to date” posts surrounding this.

So I brought a MG ZS EV Standard Range (Trophy) a couple weeks back and have now started to play around with settings having now had the at home charger installed.

Like many I have noticed that the standard range doesn’t allow the car to be set to 80% charge and from what I can gather this is because of the battery chemistry. Meaning I can charge to 100% to my hearts content?

What I’m curious to know is where I can actually find documentation confirming my brand new (registered In 2024) model is actually still using the battery chemistry I’ve seen quoted in posts a few years ago.

Any resources that can be shared to confirm this would be lovely.

You don't need to do that.

ALL standard ranges are LFP.

Also, the car wouldn't be configured like that if it wasn't.

Thank you, I totally understand what you’re saying, but I don’t understand where this information was originally derived from as the manual doesn’t allude to it.

It’s just me doing my homework and looking for resources to understand my car more fully.

This is the acceptable AC charging protocol for all EVs that are equipped with LFP battery chemistry technology.

When I said 'you don't need to do that' I meant you don't need to go around checking your battery labels - it is 100% LFP.


As for whether charging to 100% is the way to go - the actual answer is 'its complicated'. There is a pretty good video on LFP specifically from Engineering Explained:
