5p kWh and 5.5 miles per kWh it seems about right to me.That's always a good one. Although I think the 1p/mile is a bit of a stretch.
Oooh steam engines ?aaah those were the good old days. ?? get the dungies on and oil an engine - bliss ??Cars with a soul and peronality? No, I don't get it.
I can imagine petrol heads as elderly gentlemen in "bib 'n' braces" overalls, at a vintage steam rally; "oohing" and "aahing" at the centuries old engineering of a traction engine, longing for the old days when they used to make them like that.![]()

TELL HIM HOW MUCH IT COSTS IN SPEEDING FINESI also owned an E63 AMG Estate 12 years back (and what a bloody car it was!) one of the highlights of my petrol powered era!
Anyway, I was shouting at the screen......
"TELL HIM HOW MUCH IT COSTS TO FILL IT UP" !!!
"TELL HIM HOW MUCH IT COSTS TO MAINTAIN" !!!
"TELL HIM HOW MUCH IT COSTS TO TAX" !!!
"TELL HIM YOU NEED REAR TYRES EVERY 5 THOUSAND MILES" !!!
You get the picture.

CavemanWe won't be watching it, ICE will always be better no contest.
AbsolutelyBUT supposedly EVs are better for the planet.
Not really you cant watch a car for a nights entertainment no matter if its ICE or EVSort of like VHS v Beta
Theres no such thing as a self charging hybrid. They make absolutely no sense at all. Extra weight, no benefit at all. ICE is the most expensive way to generate electricity.Self charging hybrids make the most sense for us, and EVs for others.
Yes, in theory the ICE engine can be run at its most efficient revs and the energy stored to be used when the ICE engine is at its least efficient. In practice, the efficiency of the conversion is a problem and with very small batteries it doesn't make a huge difference, although arguably can reduce emissions in towns.I thought the so-called "self-charging hybrids" might have some advantage as simply being an ICE with a range extender. A way to get better fuel economy. It's the plug-in hybrids that make absolutely no sense to me, in just the way you say. Or perhaps I'm misunderstanding. Never saw the point in either.
