Software Updates

I have previously been told on this forum that my 2021 ZS EV SR doesn't need software updates, so I'll ask again. How do I determine what software versions are currently installed?

Never got any information of any substantial updates - got my zs ev Luxury (Nl/BE specs) since April ‘23.
Mg promised OTA updates but never got anything…

Got our gen 1, 3 year old ZS serviced at Hendey Crawley. When booked, I was informed that it needed a recall and that it was for a software update ??‍♂️

Got called in the afternoon to say the service had been completed, passed MOT with no advisories. ??

When picking up, I was informed that the usb stick that was used for updates didn’t work and no update carried out. I was told that they would call me when the stick was fixed. That was a week ago ??‍♂️

Once it’s had the software done, I will update here ?

(Getting waaay off topic but I’ll bite) what? You can have manual updates both on your computer and phone. My computer does not update anything without me clicking on said updates be it apps, OS or firmware. On my phone I have auto updates for apps but system is manual update only. So I can and do something about what gets updated on both.

Back to cars. Your story goes against all posts stating otherwise - that MG updates are a PITA for the mechanics and very much a manual process. Where does your information come from?
You need to go into the settings on your laptop and phone and set up automatic updates, can save a lot of time and if you don't like an update you can always roll it back

If these software updates are being applied via a USB stick, then it very likely that this will only be improvements made to the cars head / infotainment unit.
Larger software updates that control many modules of the car etc, will be carried out with use of a MG diagnostic computer and information downloaded from the main frame in China.

If you have an Android phone and an OBD II dongle, search Google Play Store for the eZS app.

I don't know of any other way, unless you're prepared to dig into hex codes. If you really want to do that, I have a post on how I did this with my Mark 1 ZS EV here. It's not for the faint hearted ??.

I've said this before. You have to understand that this is a sub brand car. And a very Chinese one at that. They will do as little as possible to keep these things up to date because it's not in their (shorted sighted) interest.

Make a cool looking product, sell it, gloss over the slight issues, make a cooler product, sell it, gloss over... rinse and repeat.

They're selling the dream, not the solution. It's capitalist perfection... from the communists. You gotta love it.
Spot on!
