Hi all, Could someone please help me, in the battery section there is a charging current limit button = 6a, 8a, 16a, ac current. Which one do I set it to? Does it matter if you are charging with a slow or rapid charger? And does it stay as set or go to default when switched off? Thank

It's not going to affect rapid charging at all, as that's DC not AC.

It's for use with AC charging to protect your system from too high a current draw over a long period, and is probably more relevant for granny charging where setting it at a lower level will help avoid plug overheating.

But if you're using the MG granny lead then it should automatically set the charge current. I just leave mine set at Maximum in the car, even if using the granny. :)

By 'Maximum', siteguru means the 'ac current' setting. As siteguru says the car will set the charge current as it needs up to the rated level of the granny charger. (Approx 8 amps giving 1.9 to 2kW indicated on the App.)

As others have said, this affects AC charging only. If you use a wallbox, you can leave this on maximum.

If you use a granny charger, this gives you the option to limit the current to a lower level.

Why would you want to do that?

To keep things safe if you are using an older electrical installation or a limited power supply: in some countries people pay more for their electricity depending on the max current draw and so having the car charge at maximum granny speed can overload the system.

If you use a granny without a dedicated socket that is on its own protected circuit, it is a good idea to limit the maximum current so you don't overload the wiring or the total capacity on that circuit.

So it seems if I set the current limit, when I next come to charge the car it had reset to Maximum again.

The software on this car still continues to disappoint me, my Ioniq PHEV remembered the setting; because of course it did, its very basic software funtionality.

Some might say the other way round (remembering the last setting) can be just as annoying: I certainly don’t want that.

I set it to 16A only on occasion and I certainly wouldn’t want to find out I was charging at 8A at work after entering the building.

Would be nice to have the choice of behaviour wouldn't it? Again, pretty trivial to code stuff like this so I have to assume it was an intentional choice to go with one behaviour and not have the option to remember settings.

It is pretty annoying to me that "Driver Profiles" are considered some kind of advanced feature. Practically every software system has some form of persistent user configuration data and it is so common that to pretend this is some kind of difficult challenge is really irritating.

It's not difficult at all especially the car does remember some settings. It's the absolute norm that in any settings in any software if you change them they stay changed. This has applied to every car I've had but apparently for MG it's too difficult.

It's not like it's some NCAP thing. Changing it back can be dangerous if you forget and end up pulling too much current.

Not only does it not remember next time you drive the car. But it's literally only for that charge session.

So if you initiate a charge from the app, or even if you run the climate for 10 mins and the car needs to charge up again; it's back at AC current. *** so stupid.
