Speed limit recognition is dodgy

And back to the topic. It is definitely dodgy. I live in a 30mph zone, got in the car this morning and it told me it was 50mph and I hadn't even set off???

Same happened to me this morning at home 50mph in a 20mph zone, out of the 20 into a 40 all fine.

I wonder what the difference is, our MG4 is nothing like that, it accurately shows the last speed sign seen. (even though it may be on an off ramp, that you're not going up). I wouldn't want it to be controlling my speed, a flashing speed number on the dash is easily ignored.

I feel I need to step in on the side of the Speed Limit Recognition, maybe I live in an area where the signs are clearly shown, and not obscured by bushes, or not covered in graffiti, or haven't been turned slightly in the wrong direction, etc. but mine works perfectly. I actively monitored this the other day, and every change between 20, 30, 40, and 60 was instantly recognized, and the dash display changed with almost magical accuracy.
I'm sure there will be occasions in the future when a speed sign will be missed, and I end up cursing, but right now I love it, and think it's a great feature to have on my car. ☺️

So could the camera orientation be a factor?
I think I read somewhere to keep the area around the back of the mirror clear, that could be where the camera is.
Yes that's where the camera is located, but it's in a fixed position, so I doubt if it's orientation could be a problem.

That would be logical, although mine is clear behind the mirror, but it depends on which camera is picking up the speed signs

I think that it should always be seen as an assist rather than control. Most people, not all, like to use cruise control, this is only a similar aid and simply saves you having to manually adjust your speed especially on variable speed limits on motorways.

Some useful information from the manual . . . . .

I have read this many times, but none of it explains why getting in the car in a 30mph limit outside my house and it says it is 50mph and I haven't even moved. Nothing is in the way, no trees no other speed signs, no bad weather etc., etc.

I know it's unlikely, but could it be that the 50mph sign was the last one it recognized before you parked up, and it hasn't yet seen the 30mph one outside your house?

I live in a 30mph area, I have to travel through a 40 & 60 mph limits to the nearest 50mph. I've even looked at other possibilities of 50 on things like wheelie bins and house numbers. It doesn't always say 50, sometimes it is correct, so ??? ?

I was thinking that too, there is a lot in the way between the cameras and what it flashes on the screen, it seems it must be partly GPS too, not sure where it gets it's maps from but none of the sat nags is that accurate, but when I get 100 on the dash instead of 30 it seems the location is very wrong as that is Kmh not Mph as we do not have such a limit, so it thinks I'm in Ireland of France etc

It does NOT inspire confidence really.

Could it be that you are and have never realised? We did take a Welsh lad over here years ago, guy called Patrick. Had him minding sheep. He legged it home but came back later, so we named a day in March after him
