MG4 upgrade rims

I know it's the rim. But if you did not know the rim width but fitted 235 mm on a 17 inch, it would likely be a 7,5j rim.

So theoretically we would need a 17" 6.5j rim to make it fit, right?

As above a rim diameter of 18inch is still very tight so I doubt a 17inch rim would fit an ER if it has the same brakes as an Xpower (regardless of rim width). It would not clear the brakes IMHO

No need, just take off aero cap (hard af) and check the distance from the calipers to the rim. If it is as in pictures above, dealer can't help. And I hope my ER is not unique in the world to have XP discs

I believe you Rapax. But the offer of 17" rims was part of the solution of the vibration. So that's down the drain. Oh well, it could be I do not even need it. I might be returning the car somewhere in the next months.

Has anybody ever been refused warranty work / had warranty voided because aftermarket wheels were fitted? As it does say on various sections of warranty that such modifications are not covered.. :-

All repairs, damage rectification or fitting of replacement parts and accessories are carried out by an Authorised MG Repairer and in accordance with MG instructions.

The vehicle has not been altered from the original specification, where said alterations maybe found to be the cause of any subsequent component failure.

Any vehicle that has been written off by an insurer, or any repair, replacement or alteration not authorised by MG, experimental adjustments or vehicles modified in any way from MG’s specification.

The fitting of replacement parts not approved by MG Motor (UK) Ltd. or the alteration of the MG vehicle from the manufacturer’s specification.

Interesting to know whether it would completely void ALL warranty or just for related items such as wheel bearings or steering components, or just the wheel itself?

I would expect the last explanation. But it usually needs someone with a legal background to clarify this when it comes to a discussion with a dealer...

I think it is reasonable for MG to not give you warranty on items you’ve purchased elsewhere and then installed yourself or had a third party install on your behalf. I also think warranties are like insurance, whatever tiny and half truth reason they can come up with to deny you a claim they will. Whether that is legal is indeed a battle for lawyers I think.

Yeah obviously they wouldn't cover the wheels as not bought from MG. Just would fitting non MG wheels enable MG to completely void the full Warranty of the vehicle ie for example the battery..

No, why would they. They might try to wriggle out of any suspension work, for example, but even that's doubtful. As for anything that's got absolutely nothing to do with the wheels, I'd say no.

Hello to all.
I want to change my trophy ER rims for aftermarket ones. The problem is ET number. Factory is ET51.
If someone changed rims and know their et number and have picture how it looks I would appreciate it.
ET51 is hard to find, mostly are 40-45.
Also will driving dynamics change if I get for example et40 rims?

Today I found out (in a costly way) that 17" rims can't go on Trophy ER, because ER have same discs and calipers in the as XPower, so just 18" rims can fit.

P.S. for ones who don't know, lower ET number will bring the wheel more outside, bigger ET number will pull the wheel inside.

Would you consider a swap with some Xpower wheels?

Do as my neighbour does with his show numberplates when his car goes in for its MOT. Swap them back to the originals when it goes in for any warranty work.
