OK, so after 9 months or so, I had my first public charging glitch....

Quick top up charge needed at Ionity Chobbam at the M25 services.

Ionity is linked with Eloctroverse which gives you a few pence off Ionity's rate.

I draw up to the number 6 bay...Ionity says it's free, Electroverse says it's 'occupied'.

Using the Electroverse app, the charge starts fine, and then stops after around 5 minutes with a fault indication.

It does this two further times. By the end of the third attempt, I have enough miles to get home, and do so without problem.

I charge my car overnight to 100% using my 7kW charger which was glitch free.

1) Was the glitch a communication issue with Electroverse app and the Ionity network??
Or
2) Is there a fault with my car's fast charge connector?

Not had issues with fast charging before. I intend to run my car's charge down, and then test the fast charge ability again using the Tesla chargers at Amesbury.

Thank you for reading this....any thoughts welcome over reliability of Electroverse too!!

Sorry to be pedantic, but ‘fast’ charging is any AC charging, ie. your home EVSE, or a public charger where you use your own cable.

DC charging, where the cable is permanently attached to the charging equipment, is called ‘rapid’ charging.

Please don’t be offended (I’m certainly not an expert), but it saves confusion to the reader.

Can’t rule anything out but I’d say it was the charger at fault.

The only time I ever used the chargers at Cobham they flatly refused to take my Electroverse card at all, and I had to rummage back in my car for my debit card.

Interesting. I'm assuming that must be a UK thing?
In Australia, the USA and Canada the exact opposite is the case.

You would confuse the heck out of everyone if you called AC chargers "fast".

The DC chargers are known as "DC Fast Chargers" and using them is 'fast charging'.

Indeed AC charging is often referred to as 'trickle charging' and the little charger that you plug into a standard "General Power Outlet" that comes with the MG4 a "Granny Charger".

The 22kW capable 3 Phase AC chargers are known as "Destination Chargers" in Tesla lingo.

We call using them AC charging and people know that the rate you will get is limited by the car, typically 6.6kW (single phase) or 11kW (three phase).

Your car is fine, nothing to worry about there. I have used different brands when travelling long distance; BP, Instavolt, ESB, Ionity etc, and each one can bring up their own issues. I have had issues with all these brands but BP & Ionity were the worst. I questioned if it was my car, but it's always been the charger and its broadband connection. In my personal opinion, from my experience, Sainsbury's rapid chargers and Instavolt have been the best to use.

I believe that it is. But this is a UK based forum, so we have to respect that and work with it. I try to stick with "rapid" for DC chargers (a bit weird to us, but perfectly clear) and "AC" for the AC "chargers", and avoid the term "fast".

@Jamesrr

Yes, I should have clarified that these are the terms generally used in the UK, and it would be far simpler to say ‘fast’, ‘slow’ and tortoise!

It’s a bit like LR v SR - I have heard people say Short Range when it’s actually Standard Range, and don’t get me started on sizes in coffee shops…… large, grand, tall?….. so much easier to understand small, medium and large. Is it the same in Aus?

We do have Granny charging - named, I believe, to be for when the car driver visits elderly relatives. It’s the opposite when I (granny) go to visit my young relatives!!

Fortunately most real coffee shops here in Oz use the terms small, medium and large. (Or regular and large if they have only two sizes)

I don't frequent that travesty of coffee chains, Starbucks, where they use BS terminology ;)

And please excuse the Ageist term for trickle charging! I wish our kids would hurry up and have their own. My dear beloved refuses to retire until she has grandkids to help look after!

I don't know about coffee (I can't afford to buy from a café), but with eggs, "large" means the smallest size, "extra large" means regular, and "jumbo" means large.

I agree about naming the sizes of coffee cups and don't get me started on the variations of coffee, milk and sprinkles. It's like a coffee version of pick 'n' mix at Woolies. What happened to just having a coffee with a splash of cows milk? 😡
