MG4 Software Update Thread

The thing is ... software updates are a check item on the service checklist, so I've no idea why a service dealer would refuse to do them. 🤦‍♂️
Yes but they only check the updates which appear on their system, but that doesn't include infotainment updates. That's why they always tell you there are no updates outstanding.

I'm my case because the MG technician wasn't there on the day they did my service (or the day it went back because the radio had stopped working).

Hence buying £100 interface & if I'm just checking my car it's approx £5 a time to use the software
If I'm looking anything up (like when I checked a few vin's) I'll buy a day pass which is approx £16
I just ordered mine... I hope the tutorial I saw here is up to date and I'll get it out :)

R63 not been found yet
There's also TBOX but not sure if anyone has tried it yet, also without entering your vin on the software check page I don't know how you'd tell which version you'd need
not tried usb tbox update yet, i ll try to analyze file but no luck unfortunately.

Sometimes, i m just thinking f.. it lets try but still i m not sure

That could probably be arranged
For example this one (last LOU I got for a member)
If they wanted I could look for all 4 files, about 75MB each, as I haven't looked into them yet I couldn't say if the file gives more info like SNAKP21E32 or SRAP027E4Y etc

You could always try to scare them into doing the updates as they'll know all the warranty codes, descriptions etc
Go in with a piece of paper saying

We (dealership name) accept all responsibility and liability for any incidents caused to/by vehicle (reg) due to the outdated and known to be dangerous software on the vehicle although newer software is available

Get the manager to sign it

Then any traffic incidents you can report it as the LKA no matter who's fault it was and they would be liable

I've known it to work for other brands as garages don't like to be liable for anything, to the point of them getting the customer to sign a liability waiver if you insist on taking a vehicle they deem not road worthy

It's really poor isn't it. It's put me off the brand. If you don't value your customers post sale, you won't get them back again. And for something so simple...some software updates. Not really the dealers at fault, it's MG themselves. Likely why MG were voted bottom in a survey of garages too. Poor all round.

Oh absolutely, I am done with MG, once the finance term runs out I will be handing it back and walking.

I don’t think it’s all that bad.

MG cars are reliable, well-built, exciting to drive, and offer excellent value for money. Every brand has its pros and cons.

The main shortcomings are clearly the infotainment system, which is about a decade behind its competitors, and MG’s approach to updates.

I believe many customers don’t even care about updates…

In my case, I find it particularly frustrating, especially since I also own a Tesla, which sits at the opposite end of the spectrum—though it comes with its own set of drawbacks.
