How usable is the middle seat in a ZS?

Morning All,

Currently looking at potentially replacing our '18 Ioniq Electric. We have two in car seats in the rear and a third (8yrs) in the middle seat which is doable, just, in the Ioniq but probably not for much longer. I wondered if anyone had any experience of both vehicles by chance and might be able to comment on whether the ZS offers more/less/similar space on the rear bench than the Ioniq or if anyone has two car seats in the rear of a ZS and knows if that just leaves a 'slot' in the middle like in many cars or if the middle seat remains usable for a child or squeezed adult to sit in at all?

Any thoughts most welcome!

I went from a 2020 38 kWh Ioniq to a new ZS 2 years ago.

I have a 10, 15 and 18 year old.

Last year we went down to the Dordogne in it with the 3 in the back and there was no more whining and complaining than there was in the Ioniq.

I think there might be slightly more leg room, but the width is fractionally narrower, but not by a noticeable amount.

In my experience there are very few cars that have sensible space left in the middle when you use 2 gigantic ISO fix seats. Not even in our old Mazda 5 MPV.

Best solution (and cheapest) we found is to just buy narrower car seats and move to booster seats as soon as they are tall enough.

Best thing to do is go to your local MG and try it out. On the other hand, by the time you get the car, maybe you can switch to booster seats instead

That's really helpful - thank you. The middle 'full' seat in our other car (Ford Galaxy) is even a bit hemmed in when you've got the big seats either side. Looking forward to when those can get slimmed down a bit....

Ha, very good point! Yes an in-person tryout sounds worth a shot as it can make such a difference with the specific car seats you happen to have suiting one bench shape over another etc.

I have no experience of the Ioniq but I put the grandkids chairs in the back and if we are returning from a day trip then my wife sits in the middle of both (to keep the 3 year old awake).

Both chairs are big and one uses the isomounts in the seats.

Although she is a bit squashed there is plenty of room for two seats and a adult.
