New owner questions

Hello all, yesterday I collected my new MG5 SE , and after driving just a few miles so far I have a couple of questions. I could ask the dealer of course, but I thought I'd like to join a forum for future use.
So, question 1: if I drive over 30mph , even in a 40 mph zone that the car has recognised, it's telling me to 'Slow Down' (warning words and beep on the console). AFAIK, there aren't any speed controls set yet. How to I stop this?
and question 2: If I change to 'eco mode' , the setting is lost each time I drive the car. Is there a way of making my driving style eco by default?
and finally: is it correct that the only charging cable supplied is the 'emergency' home one for a 13A socket?

Hi and welcome to the forum.
I am not sure on point 1 as I have a PFL.
2 the default is 'normal' unfortunately and you can't change that. You just need to flick the switch each time.

As to your third question, only a granny charger is normally supplied as standard. Whether you need to buy a Type 2 cable will depend on your particular circumstances. If you have a tethered (has its own built in lead) home charger and you will only use rapid DC public chargers you won't need one. However, you may find yourself in circumstances where there is only non-tethered AC public charging available (usually in more remote areas) where it may be a life-saver.

A type 2 cable is not very expensive to buy but do make sure if you do buy one that you get a 32amp one, some 16amp are sold and will only charge your car at 3.5kW.

You should be able to turn off the speed warnings in settings, go have a play.

Also a good idea to get a 3 phase 32amp cable if you are thinking of using it out and about. Some commercial charging sites have 3 phase and they will charge the car at 11kW.

Will a 3-phase cable also fit a 2-phase public charger? would this be the be a correct one?

Yes, it will fit single-phase as well as three-phase. They're a bit bulkier and pricier but will give the optimal charge rate in all situations. You can keep it for your next car, of course, so look at it as a long-term investment.

This ^ When I said 32amp I was referring to my own car which charges at 7.5kW max. A 3 phase cable is a good idea if only so it could be useful for your next car if it charges faster.

Yes, thankyou, found this now. It required quite a few clicks on the stering wheel control to find it - was set to 30mph so now changed to 70mph.

Have ordered one, also a vehicle-to-load cable. I won't need that until I go camping next summer, but want to make sure everything works now.

The V2L can be really very useful. Once you have mains power available everywhere you can take your car you think of all sorts of uses. (powering the freezer during a power cut is one that come to mind.)

My new Citroen e Berlingo only came with a type two cable and no Granny.

I bought a new MG5 Trophy on 27th Sept this year. It only came with a Type 2 cable and no granny cable.
The salesman did mention they had a few granny charger cables from a 'supplier' and could let me have one for 'cash only'. I guess the supplier was the boot of a MG5 and the sales team were getting an extra 'bonus' but at £21k I was happy to have the car without one.

I know hindsight is bloody marvellous, but you have to negotiate to get both cables, when buying the car. You would've almost certainly have got both. But as you say you got a great deal, anyway. You can get a good Granny Charger, for about £90.

As I do a few long trips each month and fewer short ones I'd managed to get the dealer to guarantee the Tesla charging software update FOC so was happy with that.
As you say, I thought it easier to pick up a cheap granny cable.

Granny is of limited use and you have to be careful how and where you use it.
I ran my car off the granny for 3 months and while it worked ok I did have to keep an eye on the socket for overheating, buy a heavy duty extension cable and a water proof connection cover. Of course ymmv

I've had my X Power for nearly 3 months now. And I've only ever used the Granny Charger. So far everything's fine. Socket doesn't even get warm. It suits me fine. And to be honest I'll probably just stick with me Granny charger. But that's me, it probably won't suit everyone.

Do I take it that your daily mileage is on the low side as charging an empty(ish) 64kWh battery with a granny will take considerable time?

The car comes from the factory with the Granny charger, it's part of the car package. Your dealer shouldn't have taken that out, they effectively stole it! The Type 2 cable is optional.
