iSmart app AU/NZ v2 released

The new app is worse than the old one for actually showing the current range and battery status. The old app always showed the correct status. Now the main start screen shows nothing unless you refresh it with a swipe down. This sometimes activates bluetooth & the keyless start tab changes to blue but there is no range or battery data. A vehicle status check sometimes then brings up the battery & range data, sometimes not. Other times it just says "The service is not available, try again later." The same goes for tapping in to the charging screen. Changing charging scheduled times works but sometimes it comes up with start & finish time of 30 hours & 62 minutes & fails to communicate with the car.

I don't like the new graphics or colour change to white and the animations are worse as well. The only thing better is the ability to change things using biometrics.

I have followed the advice of other users, deleted the cache etc but it is no better.

In a nutshell the new app is rubbish.

Sounds like you now have the same app as here - all those behaviours are are normal for me. Not much comfort to you i know, but up until a couple of months ago it was much worse as every few days it would get an error what ever you did, and the only solution was to go to the car and put it in to ready mode then lock it up again 🙄.

I’ve read before (and experienced it myself once) that whenever the car sits for more than a couple of days, it stops responding to the app, and seems to go into some sort of deep sleep state until you put it in ready mode. Quite unhelpful function for those who would like to check the car when away from home on holidays or something like that

It wasn't as simple as that unfortunately, much more random. It could be fine for a week even if not driven, or do it within an hour of being driven. It even did it while car was in use (by someone else) for about 30 minutes.

Anyway, a thing of the past since they increased the 'failed' timeout from 15 seconds to about 30 seconds a couple of months back 🙂. The only similar failure since has been a couple of times while charging with the car unlocked 🤷.

I use my car almost every day & was quite happy with the old version of the app. I have not sent any comments back to MG yet but it would seem that is a waste of time given they provided an upgrade that had already proven to be crap in the UK so there would have been plenty of complaints.

It seems that many other manufacturers don't even have an app so I guess it is better than nothing at all but nowhere near as good as it used to be.

A bit over 20,000km so far. Using the Powershop 2 hour free power between 12 & 2 every day has been beneficial as I have not paid for any home charging since I changed. My last power bill was a $30.00 credit.

On a sunny day I am generating around 6 - 6.5 kW from my 8.5 kW of panels during the free time so it is not costing them much at all
