So what range were you getting in recent cold weather?

It's very reassuring that I seem to be getting similar performance in my PFL5...

Thanks everyone for sharing.

I totally agree with you it does seem strange but I would put my house on that there is no way I could get anywhere near 200 mls . My typical working day is around 6-7 hrs I only have the heating set at 22 degrees and the fan set on 3. I must add that I turn the heater off when I don’t have a customer in the car just to try and save the battery a bit but you soon get bloody cold. When I first bought the car I thought the miles I was getting wasn’t as good as my previous MG5. I bought it from an MG dealer so just to double check that everything was fine I booked it into another dealer and asked them to do a full check on the car they came back and said everything was fine. The car had 37 mls on the clock when I bought it. It’s a 23 plate.
You don't have heated seats then

I would absolutely fry if I had heated seats on and the temperature set to 22°C. I normally keep it on 18 or 19 with the seats on, but that probably wouldn't be very nice for a customer in a taxi.

I only put the heated seats on for a shortwhile . I don't think any MGs have heated rear seats though I may be wrong . What I really miss from my previous cars is the heated steering wheel in the cold mornings :)

Sorry I was suggesting using your heated seat rather than the heater when you have no passengers quite agree about the heated steering wheel though

I think rain and wind seem to hit our range more than temperature but, having had the car over 3 years now, I can't say theres anything that dents it enough to worry me, even the heater.

We seem to average about 3.7mi/kWh in winter when the weather is typically bad and 4.3 in summer. Because of where we live, most of our mileage is country lane with steep hills and a bit of motorway thrown in. Our journeys also all tend to be longer journeys. Rarely do any town driving where I think you'll probably get better efficiency.

I do think the heater is better left on rather than switching it on and off. In the winter ours tends to be always on to keep the screen clear as it mists up at every opportunity.

My first winter weather with an EV and full charge range on my 24 facelift dropped to 180 miles.
Just wondering if this was average for MG’s in cold weather?
Admittedly the car lives outside and I am in North Wales.
Battery heating during winter (concept) Battery heating pads. Best keep it in a heated garage, too!! The MG5/4 battery is a huge aluminium box, and has cooling channels with water/antifreeze built-in, so if you have a heater in the cooling cct. this would heat the battery if the coolant pump was running. shouldn't be too hard to engineer!

I think you replied to the wrong person .Should have been @Jaumg :)
I can confirm the heated seat is MUCH more energy efficient in winter, it heats your bum and legs directly, and then your feet also feel warm! 😊 I was driving with the heater off, or on 16deg, with an ambient temp of 5/6deg and was warm enough.

With all this talk of heating or seats etc I'm sure you've all seen this. Probably not much we didn't already know but some useful figure illustrations.

No need to re-invent the wheel, that’s already in place, (see post #36), there is a 3kWh heater built into the ‘cooling’ circuit.

I’ve noticed in the last week or so that on a full charge the range on my FL has plummeted to the point that it is getting impractical as a company car where I sometimes do a 200 mile round trip. In summer I would have about 30% battery left after 200 miles. Did 140 miles yesterday and was down to 18% left so had to charge to 100% to get home which took over an hour. Wish I’d stuck to petrol to be honest. They’re great for everyday local driving mind.

Why did you have to charge to 100% to get back? I'd have done two smaller charges or charged to 80% and driven more slowly.

I'm not surprised range plummets with this awful wind we're having!

It was just easier to charge to 100 whilst in Cheltenham rather than go off course to charge again on the way back to Sheffield. Yeah, the wind yesterday won’t have helped🥴. Like I said, I think the car is great on local work jobs but when I’m on longer trips it can be a pain. The petrol car that I had before this would do 450 miles on a tank so. Could also be me getting used to the EV way of doing things also. Just wish they had better range

That's quite a winter drop in range. Summer 200 miles on 70% so extrapolated range 285 miles down to winter 140 miles on 82%, extrapolated to 170 miles range, a 40% drop.

MG5 Exclusive LR, I get about 140 miles to a charge and mostly motorway driving. When it's 10°C or so I'll get about 180-200 miles. Can't complain, I knew what I was buying...if I wanted more miles in the winter then I'd bought a car with a heatpump. The only thing that pisses me off with the MG cars are that they omitted the heat pumps on their UK exports, it would make a tonne of difference.

Well my LR is at 82% and is still showing over 200 miles of range though I know I won't get that unless we have an unexpected heat wave 😉. Maybe have a word with you dealer?

It was only easier if you had something else to do for the hour it took to charge. You will get to where you want to go much quicker if you charge to about 80%.
