I can't bind my car!

Why would you not get your dealer to do this for you as part of the handover? That's what I did. Made them go through everything with me so I drove away happy that everything was working . I know if you have it delivered then you are on your own , but there are videos on YouTube if you are really stuck.
I did that, didn't work, I went back twice to get it done, didn't work, I contacted MG via the app they told me it was duff and to go to the dealer (posted it somewhere on here) I took the car to the dealer they said they have fixed it but I've not bothered trying it yet.

I got an email from MG yesterday asking me for my VIN.

The idea that anyone understands the process of binding an MG using the app is a fallacy. It is possible to succeed, but precisely why it works when it does or fails is entirely incomprehensible. I have long since given up. It is a useless app anyway. Mine worked for a while. Then decided entirely on its own to stop. I have (very wisely) opted to ignore the app as the work of a recently resurrected demon whose sole aim is to waste human time for no discernible purpose.
 
I picked up my new MG4 Trophy at the start of the week and while I'm enjoying it, there are some niggles. The main one is that I can't in any way shape or form bind the app to the car. I set up an account before getting the car but when I go into the log in part of settings, there's no QR code to scan. I've also tried using my email and phone number but neither work. I had the car at my dealer yesterday and they added 4 (!) updates but there's no change. I did notice an airplane icon in the top right of the infotainment screen - is this anything to do with the issue?
I've searched through other posts but nothing I've tried has made any difference. HELP!!!
Hi i had the same problem with my MG 3, You have to email a copy of your V5 to MG support this is to prove you own the car it then you can bind it hope this works.

Just do it from within the app no need to email them at all.

Swap your SIM into another phone just to bind. That worked for me; I used my Mrs phone.

You shouldn't even need to swap SIM (as long as your account is an email address rather than a phone number - in case a code is needed to validate the login) ... just load the app on the other phone, login to it and do the binding process. Once done just login to the app on your own phone (which will logout the other phone) and you're all set. :)
 
I think I may have inadvertently unticked the terms in settings which caused all this and although I've been able to get the first QR code, the app isn't accepting the second one therefore I think there's an app issue. I've been in touch with MG support but I've not heard back yet. My fingers, arms and legs are all crossed!

Yes, and I think I unticked it at one point. I've got the first QR code but the app isn't accepting the second one unfortunately. I've emailed MG support but am still waiting for a reply....
You can unbind and start fresh.

I feel your pain. I bought my car in July. It's a 2023 MG4 Trophy. I still haven't managed to get it to work with the app. I'm about to go to my second garage appointment. I've bound it, unbound it, had ismart tech support unbind from their end, tried an iPhone, a pixel and a Huawei. I've done it all. Nothing will activate the digital key. Says "activation failed" every time despite key being visible in the app. The first garage checked everything and nothing appears to be wrong. Pretty annoyed about it because one of the wee perks I liked about this model was that I could use the app to warm the car up and defrost the windows while I was getting ready for work without going outside.

Hi, I had the exact same problems and here's how I fixed it.
Connect the car to another wifi network (like home, or hotspot from your phone) from the settings in the car. Then you will probably get a qr code.

In the privacy section of the settings, there are some toggles that are hidden further down the screen. You need to press and drag up where the options are at the bottom of the screen to reveal three other toggles that need to be enabled for some of the weather/nav type services to work.

I still can't get the car's own hotspot to work and have been back to the dealer twice about it with no resolve, but all the other online services in the car now work.
 
Re. the hotspot ... depending on software version I believe it has a faulty DNS configuration. Manually set the DNS on your device (phone/tablet) e.g. to 8.8.8.8 (Google) or 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare) and the hotspot might then work. :)
