MG4 Software Update Thread

The advantages are fairly minor, especially without nav, but since it just works, I’m keeping my car on 1300R59 for now and will plan to downgrade back to 1100R33 a couple of days before it goes in for servicing.

To get the navigation working, I’d need either an older MPU version, like 1300R40, or a different version of the maps—which I currently don’t have. However, this experiment has been useful in understanding what happens when you install a Trophy firmware on an SE model: what works and what doesn’t.

If a future Trophy firmware with enhanced features gets leaked, it might be worth trying on the SE.

——

My current configuration:

  • MPU: 1300R59
  • MCU: 69.3.8.0 (I chose to revert to the original MCU from R33, I’ve experienced no ill effects so far)
New Features in 1300R59 (previously unavailable in 1100R33)
  • Weather display
  • Amazon Music
  • Ability to restrict charging to a certain percentage even with the LFP battery
  • 4G Hotspot/Wi-Fi
  • MG TouchPoint

Features unavailable in 1300R59 (previously available in 1100R33)
  • As far as I’ve tested: None, but the “switch off car” button is not readily available on the drop-down menu anymore (it’s still located of course in the menus)

Trophy features not (yet?) available due to software limitations:
  • Navigation: The elephant in the room.
  • Voice control: Pressing the voice command button brings up the voice UI, but it’s not functional since the voice engine isn’t installed. It may be possible to install it using the “Map & VR data USB upgrade” option in the system menu if we can grab the correct file.
  • Navigation/ display in the instrument cluster: Requires an additional ECU upgrade.

Trophy features not functional on the SE due to hardware limitations
  • Heated steering wheel: The SE model doesn’t have a heated steering wheel, so the icon in the A/C panel is inoperative.
  • Immersive sound system: The SE lacks a subwoofer and some speakers, so this feature is not available.
  • 3D cameras: Not installed in the SE. The UI only shows a diagram similar to R33’s, using the ultrasonic sensors (including distance).

So the difficulties you faced with the maps, upgrading from R33 to R59 on an SE EV will not exist in the case of upgrading a Long Range, Trophy MG4 from R40 to R59? Do I understand correctly?

So only the steps detailed -here post #4084- are relevant? Is it that simple in this case?

I wrote these posts while experimenting with enabling Trophy release features on an SE model. It's now outdated because most features, including maps, have now been made functional, and R63 has since been leaked online.
yes, that is what I thought. Regarding R63 I don't want to risk a charging bar error, so I'll start simpler... R59, I guess.

btw is the language part of an update? Meaning if I get to flash an R59 does it need to be translated to my language (Greek) or is language translation carried from the previous release, or totally independent? In short do I risk losing language support?

Language support is included in the updates. I can check later tonight if Greek is available in the R63 release currently installed on my car, as it’s the version provided online.

Hi,

thought it might make sense to open up a new thread
"Enabling Trophy release features on an SE model" to prevent people from getting confused and/or mix up things that don't belong together ;-)

Ok doing update R40 to 59 on a Trophy
Should i do a restart of the system somehow, on completion?

Restarted, WORKED!

Good sign immediately! With the restart I immediately heard the music from the FM radio station! Without doing anything it started playing as I had left it when driving earlier. Note that when I got in the car to do the update there was no music! The unpredictable behavior of the radio was an important reason for me to try the update hoping to fix it
Nav is good. Better on screen keyboard!

So where is the new shortcut for turning off LKA?

Swipe screen down from top

C type is only power supply
No it's not, I've used it for updates & to play media (MP3, MP4 etc)

USB C is port 1
USB A is port 2

Can I use the left USB port for the update? (the larger USB , not c type)

Yes, you can use either at the front, I wrote a guide here

Strange... this does not happen in my car. USB type C is just for charging on mine.
Maybe your cable? Try connecting other devices with that cable

R59 stops top bar from being able to pull down in AA & CP, also breaks hotspot but adds route planner and ELK (LKA) shortcut
It did not in my case, ACC bar with R59 as before R40: top bar that pulls down. I've heard about the top menu before so I was surprised that I still have it. *Edit: the pull down menu operational limitation is only during use of Android auto or carplay *
A difference is only with the floating ACC menu that initiated with the left star (as I set it). This menu would hover for a few seconds and disappear, now it stays on until I press the middle button again.

Top bar definitely can't be pulled down whilst using android auto or car play on R38, R59 or R63

On R40 it wasn't even visible
R46 is the sweet spot

Doesn't matter where you downloaded it, it'll have the same source

Where on XDA did you download it?

Sorry, likely misunderstanding then

Oh sorry I tried with neither of the above, I thought you meant cannot be pulled down at all, had not understood the initials AA, CP... Definitely too many initials in this thread! 🤣

Then my usb c port is defective. I tried it with five different sticks (different types of formatting) and none of them showed up. Sorry for the confusion... 😔

Just to make sure: if you use the pull down menu, is the lka option available or not?

Note that there should be two pull down menus: the HVAC pull-down as before if you swipe down from the middle, or the new short-cut menu if you swipe down starting near the left or right of the top of the display.
