Hi all, went to view a black '21 plate over at Marshall in Cambridge after viewing a couple of others in poorer condition. This one looks ok, and I'll probably go for it, however I've noticed a common theme with all of the ones I've viewed in that the wheels seem to be 'cloudy'. I did give my finger a quick lick and rubbed them but it's not something on the surface.
Has anyone else spotted this and seen a fix for it?

Do you mean just the polished bits? If you do, it's probably White Worm. Happens on pretty much all Mirror polished alloys. You get a small chip on the alloys, water then gets in, and hey presto, White Worm, which then speads. Only solution, get them repolished.

Oh, and.

Also, try and negotiate an extra discount, because of the wheels. Unless they are willing to get them done for you. Worth a try. 🙂👍

Thanks. This is the one we've seen, Auto Trader UK - New and Used Cars For Sale, just in case anyone recognises it.
The discolouration of the wheels probably wouldn't bother me so much if I knew they'd get a layer of brake dust on them, but being our first foray into EV I'm lead to believe this probably won't be an issue!
I have a white 71 plate available, 39,707 miles and £11,800, based in Reading and more than happy to help!

Might be worth adding a bit more and getting Mk2 ZS ? I was going to get the cheapest EV to "transition" from old diesel (looked at Mk1 MG5) but then Mk2 Trophy popped up for £14K ...

Unfortunately the jump up to a Mk2 is like £3k-ish, for a very similar aged car. At that point then I start to get distracted by things like a Kia eNiro and all sorts of other makes/models...

Yes, I understand. The car looks good, just make sure it comes with annual MG service confirmed, otherwise no warranty ...

Are they MG authorised dealers?

I don't believe they're MG dealers, as it's the Marshall group. I had this from an initial enquiry:
"When the car was under first registered, it was under the Motability scheme, so for the first 3 years of its usage, all elements of servicing and maintenance are covered by the manufacturer at the local main dealership.

We then purchased the car and sold to its 2nd keeper, which who as traded the car back in with us recently, due to a change in there current circumstances and needing a car with a longer range.

We have carried out inspection service's of the car in its time with us, so everything has always been carried out by a main dealer."

They annoyed me a bit with their sales tactic so I'm playing quite breezy at the moment. I had a look round the car on Sunday and it seemed ok, then went inside to have a chat about where they could go on the price, as it was over-valued (IMHO). I suggested a couple of prices to come down to, and they did the usual back and forth to the sales managers office, and couldn't get down to what I had proposed, so I walked away. Cue a call at 4:15 before they closed saying they could get it down to 10900 with a second year of their warranty included, but I had to go and do the reservation on their website. That only reserves it for 48 hours, and I can't get back there before this coming weekend (2 hr round trip, plus lugging the pregnant wife and youngest out with me), so they wanted £500 to take it off sale.
I've been chocka at work so I'm letting the sales guy dangle now, and in the meantime keeping an eye out in case I get my head turned by anything else.
Has anyone here had any other major issues with their cars of this kind of age? I'd seen reports of underbody rust and poor paintwork, but I think they could be isolated rather than endemic issues.

I don't know what to tell you, if the price is good, it's worth a bit of a risk... So they don't have any proof of servicing with MG every year, to date? And what was that about second year of their warranty included, they will give you full warranty for 1 year?

I think you normally have a 6 months warranty period if buying from a dealer but not sure. You could always email MG customer services or call any MG dealer to ask if the car was serviced, I called one of MG dealers before buying mine from a non-MG dealer and they told me about service record ...
