It's that time of year again when our insurance needs renewing. We're with regular standard Aviva at the moment, they are proposing £515 renewal (last year was £443) so it is a significant increase, if not massive.

Looking on MSM, I can find quotes for £425 via Darwin, who I've never heard of but apparently are part of Admiral group.

Anyone have any particularly good recommendations for insurance providers for our MG4 Trophy?

Thanks in advance!

I'm currently with The AA - they were really good when it came to my recent claim due to storm damage, and were competitive when I took out insurance with them last year.

Renewal should come through mid-May, so I'll be surfing again. :)

That is odd. I'm also with Aviva, changed last year from Sheila's Wheels. I was prepared to start shopping around again but then I saw this.

I'm not even bothering to look elsewhere.

Given I've made a claim, I'm expecting my renewal to be a similar cost to last year - so the claim offsets any general discount.

That’s good for you then, nice!

Quotes vary enormously depending on so many factors that this can happen. When we insured for our first year it was a lot less than many were reporting.

Did you need breakdown and recovery?
Should come with every service.

Is this not offered by MG in your country?
Yes, but roadside recovery is also normally included in all Spanish insurance policies - even 3rd party only ones.

I'm not 100 % sure (even after 20 yrs here! ) how it actually works, but it seems that a lot of garages have a recovery truck (grúa) and are registered on some central DB.

If you have a breakdown / tyre blowout / accident you just call your insurance company. In 20 odd years and 5 call outs we've never waited longer than 30 mins.

It's not offered because in many European countries breakdown cover is always included in insurance. This also makes servicing cheaper, I've been quoted €80 if I had my car serviced now.

I have had a very bad experience with Darwin so I would advise steering clear!

If you only do a low mileage finding a pay by mile insurer may be very well much cheaper, tell them your expected mileage, if you do less you will be refunded the difference when it runs out or pay then a bir more if you overdo your expected mileage

I guess this is one upside of a salary sacrifice lease, the insurance is premium is set for the duration of the lease and should be immune to the vagaries of the market
