Hi all, I’m new to both MG cars and the forum so if this query has been asked before I apologise.

Since picking up my ZS in late December, I have had it back to the dealer 3 times, one of the reasons is that the Radio randomly switches on with the car, but mostly does not and has to be switched on using the mute button the the steering wheel. The dealership claim to have fixed this issue each time, once with a software update, the other times saying “nope couldn’t get it to do it” I think this was just sitting in the car switching on/off/on etc.
Has anyone else had this problem? and did you get it resolved

I'll have to check again, but I think mine comes on if I had it on when the car was switched off, and vice versa - it is off if that was the state when the vehicle was switched off.
ie the car seems to remember the radio state.

As I said, I'll check this again, it never really bothers me what it does, I switch it on if its off, and off if its on, depending on what I want at the time! :giggle:

Thanks, mine is random, always have radio on when I switch off but as mentioned 60% of the time it is off when I restart. It’s easy enough to switch on but if it’s a fault it wants fixing, who knows what other faults could emerge which might be related 🤷‍♂️

The software in EVs does seem to have been contracted out to school leavers on work experience - my Renault Zoe had several "undocumented features" that needed a bit of working round. So far, the ZS just seems a bit patchy, with things working as they should, or not!

I frequently get this when I start the car. The touch Play button does nothing, neither does the source touch arrows on the top or the channel buttons either side of Play. The only way I can actually get to the radio to come on is by pressing the Source button on the steering wheel, which is a bit rubbish. The whole radio implementation is the worst I have ever seen in a car, including cars I've had which were built in the 1970's.

Hi Chris,
Just checked mine (ZS SR) and the buttons change channel ok, top buttons changing source.
Also checked range, from one of your other threads, got 100% charge showing 140 miles.
I’ve been trying to do an equaliser charge but not sure if I’m doing it correctly, unlike the 2023 model there are no lights on the charging flap and can’t find enough info from manual to know just how to do it.
I got it down to 23% put it on charge overnight 11:30 until 6:30 (octopus cheep rate window) it was 99% so but it on bump charge and left it 2.5 hours, don’t know if it will have worked or not 🤷‍♂️

Hi I have a 2022 mg zs ev trophy what annoys me is when my bluetooth is on on my phone when a notification comes through on my phone my radio turns to bluetooth instead of radio but doesn’t do anything every other car I've had reads out text etc unless of course I have it set up wrong.

On my MG5 the radio is constantly on! To switch it off I just use the mute button.

I don’t believe it is a fault - just the way it works. Unusual compared to other cars but I just accept it is just Chinese wizardry and laugh!
On the whole the car has been extremely reliable.
Fingers crossed!

Had mine radio just switch off , unable to use phone make phone calls

Hi
I get this sometime but it’s because the station you close down on has a weak signal and when start up again can find the signal.

I listen to BBC3CR and when I get work and park up I just loose the signal and if I turn of still on that station I get what the photo shows. If I turn to BBCR4 it will come on as normal with no problem.

I have experiened this several times. Completely random. Mostly works ok, but from time to time I get what you have shown above.

Most of the time it's ok, I get the normal radio graphic with a channel on it and the source, play and channel buttons work as you describe. But look at the picture above - do you ever see that weird radio picture? When that picture is shown on the screen then none of the touch buttons work.
This is what it normally (should) look like

Hi Grith and Chris
Can be of help on your rage and charge, first have ever reset your trips donning this reset the system and your rage will go up if you have every thing off and on Eco you show 200 miles, a lot of people worry about this range but this can go up or down, I now learnt to go off the battery % and if you get down to 20% then would do a top up to get home only enough to get you home.

As to equalisation or balancing the battery this done by the car there is nothing on the car to tell you it’s happening but in the app you will see that after 90% the power going into the will drop in kilowatt that may go up a bit and down a again then when the car as reached 100% and says it finished charging the car will have balance battery. This balancing is only done on home 7kw and below chargers and if you have the short range LFP you can charge the battery to 100% and this will be done every time. If you have a long range then you only charge to 80% unless you plan a long journey the next day in that case charge to a 100%. If you only do a lot of 80% charging you will find the car will but up a message ask you to do a balance charge.

Thanks Jto,
The dealership reset everything last time it was in and got 190 miles, I think my problem is I live in the Pennines so everywhere is either up or down.
I drive pretty steady but still get a low range, hills!
Thanks for the info on balance charge, didn’t know how to tell if I’d managed to do it ok 👍

Hi, I always have to press the mute button on my MG4 to start the radio playing, regardless of how it was when I stopped the car. Quite like that to be honest..😊
Cheers Pete, trouble with mine is that it’s inconsistent, most times it does not come on but sometimes it does, this always makes me think “problem” always on or always off I could accept as normal 🤷‍♂️
