Please can someone else try this and tell me if it’s expected behaviour.

Lock car
Press boot release on keyfob and open boot
Try and close boot while doors are still locked
Does the boot stay closed?

My boot closes and just pops open again if the car is locked. I have to unlock the car for the boot to remain latched. This seems to defer the point of having a dedicated boot release on the key fob in the first place.

Doesn't happen to mine as I do this quite regularly on Saturdays.

Car is already locked and approaching with bags of shopping. Boot release button, lift the lid, throw everything in, close and walk off to the next shop.
No need to lock the car again.

If that's the way it works, I hope "everything" doesn't include your key fob!!

My point was it doesn't make sense if the car could lock the keys inside.

Thanks for the link. Spare key was in the car at the time. Going to take the spare key out and try again.

Update: Was exactly per your link @UKenGB - thank you. Car was detecting a key (the spare) still in the car and preventing me from locking the key in the car. Mystery solved.

That's when you use the phone app to unlock the car, move the passenger seat forward and pull the tailgate cable!
You can't lock the keys in the boot even if the doors are locked, put golf bag in the boot keys still in the bag, after a second or two the boot lid pops open, retrieve keys & don't be so silly again 😴
