ECM, PEU, TCM Update

Swipe from top to bottom on the main display and press the symbol for the downhill driving aid. However, if you activate the ACC, it is deactivated again
If you are talking about Hill Descent Control, I think is meant for very steep hills at very low speeds, like off road stuff. I’m not sure it’s applicable to normal road driving

As I live in the Black Forest, the downhill driving aid is a useful thing. It also works for me at 50 km/h, but yes, the incline should be a bit steeper, but there are enough roads here that I don't have to be travelling outdoors, which to be honest is not recommended with this vehicle. Everyone has to try it out for themselves to see if it works or not, it always depends on the situation.

Hello, I have an MG ZS Hybrid+ from Austria. How do I find my current software version? in the settings I can only find ‘Entertainment System Version’ under system and ‘Version for Telecommunications’ under that, but I can't find anything more specific about PD052 or similar. how do I check my version number? :)
if possible please a photo or video

As it was a lovely day today we took a trip to the seaside.

Along the way we use a steep climb and descent (Dinas Mawddwy).

We managed to get a few videos of the cars performance.

The first shows a comfortable drive to the start of the climb followed by a very loud engine and revs around 3800-4000.

The second shows a small climb out of Dollgellau where revs approach 4400.

The third is the return journey and shows a transit van with trailer overtaking me as my car refused to accelerate. It also shows it change to EV mode on the descent but when it leaves EV (still on the descent) it revs to 4000. (3800 on video but YouTube only allows 3 minutes videos).

Perhaps all the videos show is how the car is supposed to perform but in my opinion this part of our drive was horrible, noisy and quite stressful.

Other than this we had a lovely day out.😁

Hi. Nico. I’m fortunate in that the only hills we have are the South Downs, and the inclines are not sufficient to produce the problems you are experiencing.
Not withstanding that your videos are proof that the car is dangerous, and the dealership must get MG UK to recognise this, and rectify it.
What would have been useful, is for the videos to have shown the MPG figures, as I’m certain this would reinforce the argument that the performance of your car, is dangerous.
In addition, what seems strange is the “intermittent” nature of the problem. Sometimes it behaves, and sometimes it doesn’t. This must be down to software coding, where the sensors are sometimes reporting different levels, and this result in the controlling software outputting different instructions.
Cheers Noel.

Hi Nico
I'm in west Wales, got the car from cardigan and I experience exactly the same issues as you. I've read somewhere that the software was designed for London roads and we have very different roads here but so do many other parts of the UK and other countries. Many people think we are exaggerating the problems and that it's normal but it it certainly not. Like you I am now stressed as you don't know if it's safe to overtake, the noise is irritating and the car is not delivering what was promised. Last week I emailed MG again who said there was a fix for my individual problem so I told my dealer who checked and there was not so MG sent an apology saying they got it wrong. My car performed much better before the PD052 update when I was getting mid 60's MPG now mid 40's. The car is great for local driving but does not seem to be suitable for longer journeys in hilly areas.

Sounds like my old 1970s Transit I owned. (When it was full of music equipment and five musicians)

Hi Noel & Robert,
Thanks for your comments.
I will forward the videos to my dealer and ask them to send them to MG for their views.
I planned on keeping this car for several years (until state pension age - 6 years) but I doubt the engine will make it until then so I'm going to explore my right to return it under the Sale of Goods Act. Not holding out much hope + I've driven 4000 miles in it now.
I did set the screen to show mpg but it inexplicably reverts to the basis screen whilst driving.
However, across the whole journey my mpg is pretty good - about 55 if I recall correctly. My wife did notice whilst going uphill, with over-revving, the 'miles until refill gauge' drops dramatically.
Since the PD052 update (and warmer weather) my mpg has increased significantly and the car goes into EV mode a lot - which is great. But the over-revving is now worse and can suddenly occur on straight flat roads - notably, but not always, before going into EV mode.
I may try and release the videos "globally" on YouTube to highlight the issues and get more opinions. 👍

Stop complaining. Grow your hair long (wig if not possible), load the car up with guitars and amplifiers, smoke something dubious and imagine your in The Who on your way to play some dive underground club, just when they were starting out. Embrace the revs!!!
But seriously…. hope you get a resolution soon.

Just thought…. MG UK could use that in response to customer complaints! I shouldn’t give them ideas.

Just to add… I’ve been singing the praises of the Kona hybrid. (Which I’m still waiting on delivery) …. I can almost certainly guarantee that give it a few months and you’ll pass me, pulled up on the hard shoulder, with all four wheels hanging off!
Or I’ll discover it revs to 5000rpm while going up the gentlest of inclines.
My friend is still considering the MG Hybrid…. because for most of the time, it’s a good car. I think his only concern is MG UK customer service.

Just a thought… is it worth test driving a few other hybrids on the same route. See how they respond to the hills. If they don’t rev nearly as bad, then you have more evidence to throw at MG UK.

We heard you the first time lol

Thanks for the laugh! 😁
Though I think I'd rather imagine myself in Led Zeppelin. 🎸
There are no car dealers anywhere near here so no chance of getting a test drive.
My one neighbour has a BMW hybrid and surprisingly has no problems with the hill climbs. 😁
My other neighbour has a Renault Clio hybrid and again has no problems on the climbs. 😢
ps as I'm near 4000 miles I just checked my accumulated mileage and for some reason it has reset - possibly when having the software update.🤔. But trying to be more positive I've achieved 56.5 mpg over the last 818 miles.

Hi DMeine,
Fortunately I have not had many of the problems you list. Hope you get them sorted.
Other issues I have in addition to the over-revving are
  • Brakes squealing when starting off. Even now after 3500+ miles. My dealer is liaising with MG to get permission to fix this.
  • No graphic equaliser still.
  • When I start off I set my dashboard screen to the one showing mpg from start. For some unknown reason the screen changes later randomly to that showing no data just the car image. Not particularly important but a bit annoying.
It does that when it recognises that you are behaving according to surrounding traffic.

Whilst generally speaking the car is OK.
BUT, the software is ‘flaky’.
As has been reported the display has a mind of its own, and for no obvious reason changes screens. At other times it doesn’t do this?
I use Apple Play and occasionally the car disconnects from my iPhone, when this happens I try everything I can think of to get it working again, but without success. I then discovered, that if you got out of the car, locked it, and left it to its own devices, for say 5 minutes, when I got back in and switched into ready mode, it was all working perfectly again.
Can anyone explain this?

It doesn't switch screens without an obvious reason. It only does so when the lane assist system intervenes, which overrides the current display. So whenever you drive too close to another lane, it switches to the car view—where the intervention is indicated by a change in the color of the lane marking (either left or right).

Thanks for your help by pointing this out, please could I impose further, regarding your reference to “Obvious reason” by directing me to where, in the ‘Manual’, or anywhere else for that matter, this information is located. In the on-line manual, on page 249, there is mention of the ‘lane assist system’. But it’s restricted to informing that it should be turned off when negotiating hazards, including construction sites.
Many thanks Noel.

Hi.
This feature make me mad. When I use assist system, I can't have the screen I want to have. It constantly switches to main assist screen. I understand it is a feature, but still hate it.

Noel, what I wrote comes from my own experience and observations. Unfortunately, I'm afraid that this function hasn’t been described in the manual. I’ve been thinking that MG loses a lot by not including many things in the user manual. Many of the questions asked here or on other forums could have been avoided if these topics were properly covered in a well-written manual.

Many MG users currently drive or used to drive much older, less equipped cars, and for them, a clear and detailed manual would be very helpful. Personally, I also own another well-equipped car, and I don’t need to dive into the manual because all those features are present in other modern cars too (sometimes implemented better, sometimes worse than in MG).

I hope that MG will show willingness and initiative to significantly improve the user experience by releasing further updates and a more comprehensive manu

Well, you simply have to drive in a way that avoids crossing the line (just kidding 😂). Of course, it would be better if users were given the option to choose whether they want the screen to return to the default view. However, I assume this decision was driven by safety concerns, both due to legal requirements and a certain overzealousness on the part of car/device manufacturers — for example, speed limit alerts, lane keeping assist, or seatbelt warnings.
