Hi All,
Just had the steering wheel on my 2023 ZS EV upgraded.

Had a problem with the fake leather peeling so decided to get the wheel re-upholstered professionally.

Got it done yesterday and delighted with the results. To be honest, I've never liked the original steering wheel on the ZS, its too hard, no give at all and very shiney and cheap looking.

The results are 100 times better, real leather, its also got padding in it now so there is some (small amount) of give. Its smooth and soft and feels amazing.

If anybody wants to know how I got the steering wheel off the car just let me know (it can be a bit of a faf!)

I'm guessing the first thing to do, with regards to the steering wheel coming off is "Disconnect the 12V battery" to not trip the airbag computer into logging an error because the steering wheel airbag was disconnected.

I would be interested in hearing how much you paid, ours does not have any problems yet, being only a few months old, but if it was "cheap enough" i will store the info in my head, and revisit it, if it becomes a problem i would want to have something done about. :)

Yes, at any stage of working on this I always had the 12v battery disconnected with the car turned off (as the car will remain on if you turn on and then disconnect the 12v). There is 1 exception to this where I wanted to ensure the wheels were straight (didnt need to but wanted to be sure) so had to line the car up without the airbag attached, that generated 2 messages on the app, 2 emails and 2 text messages to advise me of an airbag fault! as well as multiple messages in the car.

It cost me €200 to get the wheel re-upholstered. The original fake leather was removed first, its not just a cover over the existing.

Well that's not THAT expensive.

Did you clear the error codes for the airbag yourself, on other cars i have owned, you need some sort of programmer to erase the codes. As airbags are safety devices, the codes would not self-clear, atleast on those cars i owned previously, hence the need to be careful to de-energize the car before doing any work on the airbag system.

It is very reasonable considering the difference it makes and the quality of the work on it.

Regards the error codes, I didnt have to clear anything, once I reattached the airbag it stopped showing up on the dash as an error and the car shows Good Condition\No Faults on the screen with the tyre pressure so assume its all good. It may be a case that there is a log lurking somewhere in the background but I dont see anything obvious, when I run a scan on the app it shows Airbag Status normal as well.
