Rapid charge advice needed

Anyone know of a decent charging station between Penrith and Skegness? Off to Butlins next Friday via A1M, M62, M180, A18. Id be happy to get 150 miles of it done first.
Overall route is 204 miles but at motorway speeds I'll probably be about 30 miles short ?
Never used rapid charging before but by all accounts I'll only need a 20-minute squirt alongside a toilet and coffee break ?

The Doncaster services have a new Gridserve pump, with an Osprey pair close by as plan B. Local to Skeggy mostly Morrisons Geniepoint or BP Pulse.

Thanks for that!
I've also found a pub near Doncaster with a BP Pulse point where we could have tea while it charges, and I'd still have a good 50 miles left to try your suggestions if it's not working or unavailable ?

The Green Tree and Toby Carvery both seem to have decent feedback with one glitch at Toby recently. In general I have found Osprey to be more dependable. But either should be fine, and there are plenty of backups in the area. If you use PlugShare on your Android Auto on the cars screen it can search for local chargers and do navigation.

Do hear horror stories about Genie point but, the one at work charges 10p per kwh (40p connection charge). We get a discounted rate which seems very good. I'm going to be a big brave boy and try it out next week.

Come back and let us know how you got on. I've just ordered a Genie Point RFID card for £9.

I've literally no idea why I just did that.

I asked an online advisor from GP why I needed an RFID card and they said, " well, you don't really need one, any debit or credit card can be used"... I don't understand that really! I'll let you know how I get on and how many times I swear at the charge point/ lack of RFID card....

Haha, well there's £9 I've wasted then! I think I read somewhere that someone had more luck using an RFID card as opposed to a bank card/app so I was curious. There's loads of Genie Points near a family members house 100 miles away so will be ideal when In visit. If it works.

You can register any RFID card with Geniepoint. They have instructions on the web for the 2 charger types they have. Having said that I tried and failed! On another forum somewhere someone said they rang GP while they were at the charger, and they talked them through registering a card. I haven't been back to GP yet to try this!

Genie point.... perhaps I'll try rubbing the side of the charger and see what happens...

Hi,

I'm going to have to top-up on a long(ish) distance journey this BH weekend. Other than "avoid Genie like the plague" - does anyone have any other advice / info? I've never used a motorway charging point before, I tend to charge slow on either the 3-pin plug or a 7kW charger in work. All I'm looking to do is to get from about 40% back up to 80ish %.

Anything I should be aware of? I'm a little hesitant just from hearing mixed reviews about motorway services chargers...
Simple.- avoid Geniepoint and podpoint and go straight for Instavolt they are 40p.per kw/hr but we'll worth it. I have used them.3 times now, so Simple to use.just tap your card to start and stop.and go (lock car) have a coffee for 45 min and it will charge from 25% to 85% easily then.off you.go on your jolly holiday drive.

I used both Gridserve (at Rownhams) and Shell (in Windsor) over the weekend for a trip and both worked fine. The Shell got up to 81kW for about 10 minutes and got me from about 10% to over 60% in just less than 25 minutes. Good to see the old Ecotricity being replaced rapidly (no pun intended) by the contactless Gridserve.

I tried a Osprey CCS2 charger and it worked fine. Though it appears to stop the charge you have tap your contactless to get options to stop the charge, as it turns out at this location there is one screen for all the charge points there.
