Charging whilst in the car

I think it all depends on whether you have the software updates. Mine is from Sep 2020 and I’ve had no problems sitting in the car while charging from a public rapid charger.

Anyone found a way to sit in the car whilst charging at a public charge point?
Can you expand a little on your question please ?.
Are we talking charging from a 7 kw post here or from a rapid charger ?.
When you say “Sitting in the car”.
Do you mean, sitting in the seat with the car fully shut down or fully booted???.
Are you expecting to receive a charge with the doors locked or locked ?.
Thanks !.

I had a leaf and you could sit in the car out of the rain with the doors unlocked and recieve a charge from say ecotricity. My MG seems to need to be locked when using a Tesco 7kw charger. The same at home.

It will depend of what version of software you are running on.
Has your car received ANY software updates ( e.g. Comfort 2 Update etc ).
My car Jan 2020 model would NOT charge on a 7 kw post or home wall box with the doors unlocked when I first received the car.
10 months latter and the Comfort 2 update was applied and it still would NOT charge with the doors unlocked, but this never really caused me any problems on a day to day basis.
After the car received the latest BMS update on 15th Jan 2021 a coupe of days latter, I noticed the car WOULD now charge with the doors either locked or unlocked !.
I believe the BCM also requires a "Tick Box" completing on the computer to allow this function !.

With my ZS EV (it's got the 156V BMS), I can charge with the car locked or unlocked and with me sitting in the car (completely shut down or in 'Ready' mode with the air con and radio on!

Just a word of caution. You are not supposed to keep the car in 'Ready' mode whilst charging. Says the owner's manual...

I normally sit in mine with the door open or closed and windows up or down locked or unlocked no difference

I cant set my car to ready, when charging only the first and second press without foot on the brake, if I try to set it in ready mode while charging nothing happens when I press the brake and hit the start button.

Do it all the time, not an issue with my car, speak to your dealer
Same here - did it this afternoon. I got my car in June 21. The only difference I have noticed is that if you lock/unlock the car the charging info does not come on screen like it does with a fast/granny charger.

I therefore press the starting button twice - with foot off the brake - and the info appears. I then realised that the info was on the charger screen!

Mine has the comfort 2 update and if i sit in and lock the doors using the door control, I hear the charging plug lock engage and the car display goes to charging.

I think it might be a bit pointless with either car in on or ready mode and using stuff that’s powered, as your sucking power from the 12V battery - probably at a faster rate than it’s charging…

How odd, I have no problem at all, putting mine into 'Ready' while charging, AC or DC.
It does of course come up with a warning that I am connected.

The different variations across these cars is absolutely mind boggling !.
They all should be standardised with the same software and features, as fault finding must be a nightmare.
Have cars running around at different stages of upgrade status, is completely crazy.
When they are presented for service, they should be standardised regarding software.
Some of this cars will be two years old in a few months time, long enough to get these issue knocked off by now you would have thought ?.
But then again - NO.
More of a patching up job than a proper fix really.
A bit of a “Only deal with the customer’s only complaint’s” type attitude.

Ready mode is when you put your foot on the brake and hit the start button, if you can go into a ready mode that would mean it would let you drive off with the charge lead still connected, are you possibly confusing the accessory setting when you press the button once then twice to allow all functions except drive ?

Hi Dave - I can go into Ready mode (foot on the brake and pressing Start) and the dash will come up with a message warning me I'm still connected but it will not allow me to 'move' (i.e. nothing happens if I then press the accelerater - good thing really as I'd undoubtedly be driving down the road at some point with a Type 2 cable dragging from the front of the car! :ROFLMAO: ).

Some thing I have not seen before ?.
My car is currently plugged into the wall box, ready to receive a charge latter tonight, ( cheap off peak ) as we have a long trip to make tomorrow.
So, I just thought I would just pop out and reset the trips.
I did not unplug the cable, just unlocked the car and booted up the car into the "Ready" mode.
As soon as it booted, it displayed a warning on the dash panel advising that the car was still attached to the charger.
It also displayed a red coloured warning symbol, depicting a charging lead with a two pin plug attached !.
So, the car does know when a cable is attached, without it actually receiving a charge.
Never seen this before.
You learn something new every day !.

I know what ready mode is, and no I'm not confusing it with anything else. Try it.

When I am DC charging and I press the brake and start button the car goes into "READY" mode but does not display READY on the dashboard. All other indicators of being in READY mode are there e.g. the 12v battery gauge showing 14v etc.

Haven't tried to move the car.....for obvious reasons!
