Really hoping this is as low as it goes...

I put a coat on to do a 30 mile trip today (1 degree celcius on the dashboard) and got 4.1 mi/kWh without using heating but with the seat heater on where it was 3.3mi/kWh the other way with heating turned on. Anecdotally that shows how much of the efficiency loss is purely down to heating and not all the other factors.

It’s a 5kW heating element (not a heat-pump) therefore it will take a lot of energy to initially heat up the cabin to be ‘toasty’, this will certainly put a dent into efficiency on short trips, might be less obvious on longer journeys though..

I've seen around 15kW with the heater blowing to clear the windscreen plus seat heater etc (I had the heater cranked up to full). That might include some 12V battery charging and maybe even HV battery heating .
Maybe some of you guys can confirm this but I was surprised to see such a high power drain while not even moving.

Let’s add up:
PTC heater 5kW
Battery heater 3kW
CCU (150A fuse @14V) 1.8kW (approximately)
Seat heater (10A fuse @ 14V) 0.1 kW per seat
Rear window heater (25A fuse @14V) 0.3kW
Blower (40A fuse @14V) 0.5kW
…
11kW can be easily explained but I wonder where the remaining 4kW are coming from?

You're correct, I'm officially a plonker! It wasn't 16kW but 16A at around 360V so more like 5.7kW
I was questioning myself as I wrote the message above so checked today and with the heat on high and everything turned on including heated rear window I saw a steady 15A at 400V so 6kW. No sign of the battery heater though even though there was frost and snow last night and the car is still covered. Is it automatic or does it have to be manually turned on?

It’s automatic in the sense that the BMU turns it on to keep the cells above freezing when AC charging or to increase charge rates during rapid DC sessions @ low temperatures.

It’s not active otherwise; it’s possible to turn it on manually, but it only ‘fires’ when the cell temperatures are below approx 10C.
 
January's average. MK1 Exclusive LR. Generally in normal mode and KERS level 3. I do a lot of motorway but try to keep it below 60 mph. I'd had the fan speed on 4 for most of it, but last week dropped it to 2 and noticed an improvement, even with no real change in weather or ambient temperature. Next month I'll try it on auto aircon and see what that does.

Sorry my January figure is a bit late only picked the car up from the garage Thursday evening. They had it for almost 2 weeks to paint the holes under the bonnet and send a module to MG for repair to sort out a Radio Module Disconnected fault.
Anyway here it is and I was quite happy to finish on 3.3.

We've had our 5 LR for 3 years now and just got used to the drop in efficiency during winter and usually get 3 miles/kWh when around 4c or below and the heater at around 23c. I always thought the heater was rather efficient until recently. As an experiment I set the heater to low and now I regularly get 4miles/kWh, even got 4.4 at 4c.

3.2 over 192 miles for the month lots of 6 mile or so journeys with heater on 27c and heated seat 74 plate trophy been out today 4.6 on a 15 mile journey.
