Diagnostic VDI, VNCI, MDI with MG4

I think I have found the reason it disconnected originally. For whatever reason my VNCI just keeps disconnecting at random point. I’m trying to get this live data. I have been messing around with the display and managed to get the screen up on the car which is more life than I’ve had since it died on me

When Connecting via usb.. try to disable all power saving settings regarding usb. This can be done in device manager check the usb hubs/settings. And as well energy saving setting in system control.

force outputs
nothing related to the power status.

At this point probably a replacement is nedeed, you can buy a bcm for about 115 euros on ebay. Probably you need first to remove your bcm and check the part number.

With the screen on, nothing on sips?

Do you have to reprogramme keys with a new BCM replacement?
yes, but it's very simple. If you change tha BCM you need to use the replacement function on sips, during the procedure sips ask to place the key in the backup position and then it says key written in the ECU do you want to write another key? If yes selected it ask to put the key in the backup position and then says 2 key written in the ecu do you want to write another key and then if you have 2 keys click no and continue.

This is the guide:

In the key addiction part for Hazard light on mean the No key detected message

Do you have to reprogramme keys with a new BCM replacement?
Don't be scared for the reprogramming keys, personally I added a OEM key bought on aliexpress for 20 euros and it's very simple and now I have three functional key. The maximum is 4.

This is the manual with all procedure: mg4 service manual

Page 731 there is the procedure for the BCM and on page 994 the procedure to reprogram the bcm.

updating my BCM and the car dims mid way through and then the reprogram stops. Car doesn’t start up now?? Did I just brick my car?
Hey
Same thing happened to me friday night (9 PM) while updating GW module.
VNCI error.PNG

After that, car was stuck in diag mode, and we couldn't do anything. I disconnected the 12V battery but nothing happened.
I relaunched SIPS and it took a while to display something. Before showing modules, the screen with "Key Module VIN Information" only shows VIN in GW. BCM and SDM where blank.
So I waited and after a moment, I disconnect the VNCI and I only saw GW in SIPS :
GW fail.PNG

I try Replacement and it wont, 2 times.
GW config KO.PNG

So I restart my laptop, unplug and plug the VNCI and relaunched SIPS. And these time, I wait until I saw SIPS main page :

It tooks at lease 5min and after that, I retry Replacement and it went to end.
And the car start normaly after that.

If you're having issues with disconnections have you tried it via WiFi?
On one computer it's the best way to connect & it seems a little quicker
With other cars it's always stated WiFi is recommended for diagnosis (ease), USB is recommended for programming (stability)

Yes, when @tbrennan4 explained the problem my first doubt was that the car was still in diagnostic mode, but he can't manage to get sips reconnect to the car. I'm struggling to accept that the BCM of Tbrenna4 is bricked because the bcm is reacheble for the vds. If samething similare happened to you there must be a way to get sips connection with the car.

For me, it could be fixed : Gateway seems to be the main module on MG4 so if BCM is out, using "Replacement" could fix it
VDS DIAG 1~2.png

In my case, GW was broken and others modules weren't reachable.
If he could do like me, connect his car to SIPS, wait until it shows SIPS main page, and launch "Replacement" on BCM module, he could fix his issue.

I don't remember if I tell it here but that why I understand dealers who don't want to update any module if the car doesn't need it...

Yes, everything pass to the GW in fact i'm not surprised that the other modules weren't reachable with the gateway "broken". Happy that you solved the problem quickly, I can only image the fear during the moment. In fact first of do something on the car I check everything at least 2 or 3 times because I tell my self that is not a computer of a few hundred euros.

You're right.
In my case, it wasn't my own MG4, that was the worst part.
But with issues I got with mine and this failure, I can tell there is a good probability to fix a soft brick with SIPS when it happened.

We just have to stay calm and do the rights operation in the right order.

Yea it sounds like I need to find access to SIPS somehow if I want to reprogram it. But with the car not turning on, there’s surely no way. I think my laptop chose to screw up on the worst module it could have

Show us some screens of SIPS when you try to connect your MG4 please
