XPower Insurance Renewal Refused

Yeah it's nuts - he's an apprentice vehicle technician and over a third of his monthly wages each month go on insuring a £1000 car - can understand why so few youngsters are taking up driving, given this hurdle they have to overcome.
guess its a win win for alot of people costs more less people not bothering to drive reduces road toll less congestion etc etc ..

Not fair but alot of people will be happy !!

If that's true, how very sad, and why? 🤔🙁
In AUS it's becoming harder and harder to drive any type of car let alone anything fast 40km/h speed zones are popping up more and more not just in school zones ( which don't get me wrong it's needed in school zones 100% ) but there are rumours of 30km/h speed zones !

All in the name of reducing the road toll but to be honest they keep making cars safer and faster yet the speed limit keeps going down and down ..

speed cameras are on the increase !

Yet all the while it only serves to deter some as frankly if i slow down for a speed camera yet do over 150 to 200 km/h and kill a family or myself doesn't actually reduce the road toll !

Personally i don't think the police or the powers to be will be happy until everyone is off the road !!

Aus ( well i know Victoria's ) public transport system is CRAPPY at best so its not much of a option !!

Next will be massive hikes in insurance and Rego to deter the younger generation from bothering with getting there licence !!

In South Australia there is now a special supercar licence that you must get for any car that's over 320kW or something all because some dumb idiot driving a Lambo hit and killed a young girl !!

( Mind you that still doesn't stop that cashed up idiot that can't drive or thinks he can handle the power or for that matter anyone who wants to try their luck in their supercar from doing the same thing. )

AUS are getting all these stupid laws yet the cars in general are getting faster and faster !!

I spend alot of time on the road and some of the idiots i see is increasing ( people not paying attention to driving in general , laws , speed zones etc etc let alone the ones who think they own the road or outright just SHOULD NOT have a licence )

Mechanic/ technician is one of the most expensive job descriptions for car insurance. Assuming this is down as his Job on the insurance.

Well I did ask! Agree, though. 👍🙂

That just proves they are making it up, as they go along. Just doing owt they want now. And we've got Two choices Pay it or Break the Law. 😡🤬

I don’t know whether anyone else mentioned this, as I confess I didn’t RTFT, but if you add someone to your comprehensive insurance, it does indeed lower the premium. However, if, for some accidental reason, for example you break your arm abroad on holiday, the named person would be expected to drive your car.

I believe I wrote this on another thread about insurance, and obviously it’s fine if the named person is prepared to drive the vehicle. I pointed this out to friends with a huge motorhome, insured to both husband and wife. However, wife would never have driven it. No insurance company will arrange repatriation of your vehicle if there is a second driver.

As a counterpoint, do insurance companies in their headline promises say their cover is all singing/dancing and then when you come to claim , find out that the fine print has loads or restrictions and conditions and in between the lines references and legal jargon which absolve them of responsibility to respect the contract. Not deceitful in any way?

Some people might be tempted to lower their premium by adding a driver, and then lying if necessary.
I wouldn’t.
They are on painkillers and getting side effects so not safe to drive, easy to get round in that circumstance, or a bad back, bad leg so cannot brake in emergency no insurer would expect second driver to take over if that driver deemed themselves unfit to drive.

Phew.

Panicking a bit thinking that my insurers were about to take me from behind...

Let me explain.

I've recently gone back to work full time, after having retired 18 months ago.

I say full time, but it's a 4 on 4 off shift pattern which is the perfect work life balance IMO.

Anyhoo, my policy is for Social and Domestic only, so adding Commuting will surely sky-rocket the premium?

Luckily I can make the changes myself via an app and am pleased to say that I was only relieved of £14.76p Result.

I nearly didn't bother as my work is only 3.8 miles from my front door.

I am going to get a bicycle on the "Cycle to Work scheme, but am bound to use the car more often than not.

It was tempting to not tell my insurance company as I feared a massive hike, but being older and wiser, thought that honesty is the best policy.

I mean God forbid I have a crash on the way to work and they found out.

They would be within their rights to not pay out I would suspect.

Not taken that chance and fessed up.
