XPower Insurance Renewal Refused

This is an out of the box solution to car insurance...set up your own insurance company. If you are saving £300 - £500 a year in premiums just put the money aside to pay for any accident repairs

After all the different posts in various threads on this forum about insurance this is something all here should watch and sign on to in my honest opinion to ensure he gets the votes he needs the go forward I have already done so.
It may be a waste of time but at least worth a go.

I think the problem with this is that if you go and kill someone (or more than one dread the thought !!) through your own fault (which could be just a tyre blowout etc.) , you may be liable to payout millions in compensation from your own money.

How does this work with uninsured drivers who cause fatalities? If you don't have the cash then you would declare bankruptcy and get out of having to pay.

"Motor Insurance Bureau (MIB)

If you are involved in an accident with a driver who is not insured or who leaves the scene (fails to stop), you may still be able to claim compensation through the MIB. They compensate for death, physical injury or property damage suffered by victims of negligent uninsured or untraced drivers. However, claims must be brought within 3 years otherwise no compensation will generally be payable. You can contact the MIB via their website"

I think I get a very good deal with Aviva online last year, fully comp etc etc for £340. Just had my renewal notice.....£579! Checked on comparison websites and the best I can get is £540! Anyone managed to get any good deals recently and if so who with?

Got mine two months ago with Admiral (gold level). Included 6 months free bp pulse subscription which includes £45 free charging so I can discount that from the price too (assuming you can make use of bp public charging)

Just check any of the several threads about insurance ... I was with Admiral first year, Aviva Zero last year and now I'm with The AA; insurance cost has been relatively flat for me, but this will differ for others based on many different factors.

Had to pay £1,100 for last year and this year.

33m, North West.

Non-Performance cars are usually £500-£600 per year.

A Tesla Model 3 Performance would be £2,600 to £3,000 per year.

When I started driving at 18, had to pay around £3,300 per year for your regular old Polo’s and Corsa’s so insurance has never really been cheap.

Cheapest was probably the 2021 Facelift Ibiza I had which was a 1.0T and that was about £480.

With my first car at 17, comprehensive insurance was £450, but it is a loooong time ago.

Unbelievably, I am already having to look for car insurance.

I've had the car very nearly 12 months and just received the reminder today telling me they aren't renewing my policy!!!

I paid £598 last year with Hastings Direct.

It was a 'distress' purchase, as I was sat on the dealer forecourt struggling to find anyone who had heard of the X Power, let alone get insured on one!

So one year on, I am forced to shop around.

Pleasantly surprised as it happens.

Bought from Budget on confused.com for £376

Compare the markets cheapest was £486

Fully Comp
Protected NCD
Legal Cover
Courtesy Car
Personal accident cover.
Uninsured vehicle cover (my priority)

I have loaded my excess to £350 to get this figure.

It was cheaper to insure with the car on the drive and not in my garage???

For years, my policy has never cost me more than about £300, so I suppose I shall have to lump it.

So why wont they re insure your car ?
Is it because of deprecation on Ev's ?

I mean in AUS insurance companies dont just refuse to insure your car without good reason!!

Best i did was 22k damage to a holden and a van 20 something years ago after that they refused to insure me but ive had a few accidents over the years and insurance companies still insure me ..
BUT
Never sorry this year we cant without a decent reason !!

They never stipulated, but my suspicion was EV repair costs.

Luckily there was another insurer ready to pick up my business.

Changed my insurer back in April as they wanted to double my premium. Shopped around, and got it for about £330 which was an increase of £60 from last year. That's on a SE LR.

Nothing compared to my daughter's first car, £1100, that's with a year no claims earned from her learner policy and a blackbox. Best price we could get on adding her as named driver to wife's Polo was £2,200! The Polo is a year older than my daughter's car!

I've also just renewed (albeit a basic SE into its 3rd year), and has come down to sensible(ish) levels again at around £350 (which is what I paid 2 years ago-last year was £450+? - All underwritten by LV, but changed 'companies'). For young adults, the best way is through (in our case) a lease car at work, which allows 4 drivers (no extra cost, but the excess decreases depending on age/experience)

Just had Hastings telling me they won't renew my insurance too, I wasn't surprised will do have to do some shopping round then.

Why? What reasons (excuses) did they give. (If any). Insurance companies are really starting to Piss me off, big time! More than they have in the past. ???
