MG ismart security

I've bound my car to the app and added my wife as a secondary user. I'm surprised that having logged in once, I seem to stay permanently logged in. It occurs to me that if someone accessed my phone they could locate the car, unlock it and drive it away with the app. The only thing stopping this is the password needed to access my phone. Does this worry anyone else?

Not really. Banking apps have better security like 2 factor authorisation (or whatever it's called).

I've set a pin on mg iSmart app so any important features are locked until I enter it.

I'm not gonna start an argument with you, but 2 factor is literally something you know (password) and something you have (phone)

You can always log out if the app for added security.

Once you've done this, you can add biometrics to iSmart. Unlock, turn heating on, etc require my fingerprint now

If you have one of the newer iPhones you can long press the app icon and tell it to request Face ID to open it

I was talking about this with a colleague the other day, how someone could steal my phone and gain access to the car, but then realised the phone has more layers of protection than the physical key does, and I don’t keep as much of an eye on that as I do on my phone.

2 factor operation - Yes.

2 factor authentication? (Which is what 2FA means in terms of security). No, a phone and a password does not comply, as you can't guarantee that the phone has an unlock security mechanism.
