Should I be worried about the number of used MG4s around at the moment?

Over a year in, 25k km , great car, a few software WTF's, don't really care as it drives so well & as T1 put it its the poverty pack. Given up on under engineered balancing. LIFEPO4 are pretty tolerant for current negatives. Lost interest in updating myself. If it aint really broke, dont fix it. Maybe we got a mid weeker.
If I had more room I'd buy MG4 wrecks, but Admiral would court martial me.
I don't obsess about resale as always keep car to end-of-life anyway.

Thinking of getting an Mg4 - most likely Trophy LR. However I am a bit concerned by the number of low mileage / not very old cars on the markets as it would seem to suggest that a lot people get them and don't like them/have too many issues etc. So just checking in with real world owners here so get a feel on what it's like to own the car please? I have read a lot about the software issues and faults, most of which seem to be resolved in the end. And as in most things there are bound to be more social posts on issues than - i love the car - it's all good etc. Anyway I'd love your thoughts thank you
Explanation for many used MG4s might be the AU$9,000 to $6,500 drop in price in 2024 and owners still trying to get a good price back first and then buying perhaps a new one or a BYD? Let me explain:

Bought an MG4 51kWh Excite for $40k, then two months later John Hughes (WA) was selling them for $31k, perhaps 2023 (?) models, now 2024 models are selling for $30k inclusive of the $3,500 WA discount, so $33,500. Anyway, I knew battery prices are dropping all the time and Tesla also upset owners via a price drop. So if you buy an EV, be prepared for a drop in retail value as ranges and capacities will improve constantly.

The new price is now discounted much of the time by 30% so leasers will not want to pay the balloon payment and own the car but hand it back. Bear these real new prices in mind when buying used too - I just got a second for me to match my wife's. Mine blue, hers red! I paid £18,595 for an SE SR. we have LFP batteries whereas the LR is li-ion NMC. We can charge to 100% daily but the LR is recommended to be kept mostly between 20-80% so we can actually go just as far most of the time and in any case further than a bladder lasts between charges. We've managed a 1370 mile road trip - length & width of England and to the West Coast of Scotland & Edinburgh. It now has the rear wiper, centre headrest, reversing camera and built in sat nav and my iPhone connected by bluetooth without a problem so many things are improved over the older SE! It doesn't have th pretty little winglets that worsen the aero and you can't have it in pumpkin orange.

No problem at all charging the 64kw cars to 100%.
My LR Trophy regularly goes to 100%, no detectable range loss in 2 years / 25,000 miles. It is important not to leave it at over 80% for many days / weeks on end, otherwise charging to 100% and using it is fine, indeed recommended you do this at least monthly.

Yes, I think we are pretty close to people not bothering with any particular battery maintenance activities. Just drive and charge as you want.

Similarly, can't see the point in carrying around charging cables I never use - used my Type 2 once, granny never. So I expect people won't bother buying them in future and won't carry them and nothing will come with the car.

All we need then is a much more vague battery gauge (F, 3/4, 1/2, 1/4, E) so range anxiety and efficiency obsessions disappear too.

My granny charger has only been used twice, once when the Zappi was having a glitch which has since been sorted and once when a gentleman up the road borrowed it because his EV arrived before his charger was fitted and his Merc didn't come with one.

I guess we carry the cables around as a safety blanket, the same as in the past carrying a gallon of petrol in the car.

I've used my Type 2 cable once, but I've used the granny cable several times away from home. (e.g. staying with family, or at a hotel with an outside 3-pin socket but no Type 2 charge point).

I used my granny cable at home for over a year before I got my Zappi, and I can see it still coming in handy. I carry it if I'm going to be staying with friends just in case something goes wrong and I need to charge from their house. Indeed, one friend has a high-yielding solar array and a FIT, so we've swiped some free charge from that. Also, in another thread we've just been discussing what to do with excess solar over my 5 kw clipping limit if it ends up filling the home battery (not sure it will, mind you) and the answer to that is to take some charge out of the home battery and into the car with the granny cable.

I always carry my type 2 cable because it's out of sight out of mind under the bonnet, and it's there if I ever want it. Mainly, when I stay with one particular friend, there are 7 kw AC chargers 50 yards from the front door, so why wouldn't I? And I don't want to find myself wanting to use an AC charger then thinking, damn, I don't have the cable.

I've just been in to my local dealer to enquire about a new MG4 or ideally a GS to be told i'm in £9k neg eq . I was sorting of expecting 3 or 4 and, as I qualify for affinity I could stomach that by doing a bit of creative accountancy. I still have around 16 mths left on my pcp but 9k seems a little excessive .
I don't think there will be any equity in the car at the end of the agreement which will be a first for me.

That unfortunate combination of buying a new model at full price and the massive negative depreciation on EVs. At least you can walk away at the end

Absolutely .I did get a discount and I went in with my eyes open. I only put £500 down So I'm not that bothered .
I'll just keep it another 16 months and walk away .

Yes, it is similar for me. I'm just over 2 years into a 4 year agreement and the car is basically already at the MGFV.

The good thing is I won't pay a penny more for the extra depreciation and at the end I can probably negotiate to buy the car for a lot less, but the bad news is that I won't be able to change cars early.

That's ok though, I knew it was a possibility when I bought.

Miles said on the latest podcast that MG dealers are offering current owners a cash contribution of £2.5k or so and low rates on taking a new PCP deal, but that wouldn't cover the gap in my case.
